Trouble with Particles Lifetime

Hi, I've set up a Particles behaviour to start after a "bit of action" in the Rules of an actor. I'm a bit confused here, as it doesn't seem to stop. I've got them to "fire" with a Timer, after a touch released activates the action. The Particle Lifetime is set to 1 second, Number of Particles =40. I would have thought that this meant they had a limited lifespan, i.e 40 particles made, on screen for 1 second, "thank you that my lot". I've just read in the wiki that Particles is a Persistant Behaviour Type, which insinuates to me that they do carry on, but that seems at odds with Particle Lifetime, seeming to be limited. Whatever, they never stop...but I want them too!! Anyone shed any light on this please?

Sorry to bother; sorted now. (Misunderstood something + hadn't set the timer properly).

I'm having a similar problem. I have particles inside a Rule that's being turned on and off. Sometimes, when I turn off the rule, the particles stop. Other times, they don't stop. I know the choice isn't being taken, because other actions in the same group aren't happening. It seems to be random, and I can't figure out why. I have multiple objects using the same prototype, and sometimes one of them will switch off while others on the screen at the same time will not. I realize I could probably create a new object for the particles, then destroy it when the switch is turned off, but that would be a huge headache and waste performance. Any ideas? I'd appreciate any help I could get.
