7/22/2010 UPDATE - Whew, I just finished the math section. That was really hard. The rest of the book should be easier to create... and less tedious.
Only one person sent in a response to the expert interviews. I might have to drop that section. I'm thinking that the big shot game developers don't want to participate because... 1) The don't like me, from ranting on the forums about how their games suck... or 2) They don't want to encourage competition. I think it's the latter.
My computer had trouble starting up this morning. That was an uneasy feeling. HA HA! I have since backed up my book. I had an earlier backup, but it didn't contain much of math section. Redoing that chapter would not have been fun!
Heh, glad you got through that one and now have a full back up! There is a third option: they might be too busy to deal with that right now. I know that days go by before I can get back to people when I'm under the gun. There's a really good chance it's that, as they know how much work it is and perhaps can't quite get into it at this time. A fourth might be that doing a bunch of extra free work for a book that's making money might not feel quite comfortable. Either way, no worries. The important thing is that you asked and you can always add revisions later if interviews come in. Hopefully the rest of the book will be more fun for ya! Thanks again,

I'm having so much more fun with the physics section. I think my example for "Max Speed" is amazing. It's going to dramatically change the way I do my RPG. So, even if no one else reads this book, my games will be a lot better because of it.
Now that I'm past the math section, the progress is a lot faster too.
tshirtbooth said: NOt sure what the expert interviews are but i was never asked that is why you did not get an email from me. Am i missing something?
Hi tshirtbooth! Do you want to be interviewed in the book too? There's no compensation for participation, but if you'd like to be interviewed too, my email address is at the bottom of my website.
I contacted major game developers, like Blizzard Entertainment and ArenaNet. They didn't respond to my emails. Heh, so let that be a lesson to fansite owners out there. However, I received another interview today. So, it looks like I might be using the interviews now. I'm not sure exactly how they'll be used though. The original idea was to include inspirational quotes. I might stick with that. To include the whole interview is a bit too wordy, as I don't have images with either interview to break up the text. Yet, there are some good sound bites/pull quotes to drop into the book.
The book is not just a dry textbook. It's an inspirational guide. It takes the reader through the total GameSalad game development process. That includes those frustrating days when you have no idea what to make or what to do next. It's also designed to open the reader's mind to new possibilities in life... math, physics, art, business.
By playing video games, and now making them, I learned a lot of useful skills. I think GameSalad is an excellent educational tool... because it's not boring and it's so visual.

It's funny because it's true!
I'm working really hard on this book now. It's my top project!

Could be that. But I'm guessing it's more likely they can't be arsed.
How do you want the money, cash, a girl with huge hooters with the 20 stuck between them, 20 might be too cheap, if the book is good and you work on it. How many GS developers are there, take that number, assume 20 percent purchase and then take your time, and divide it by the number of users who would buy it and you get a price. Its a small market, but if it really helps, the cost is incidental. I am in.
Photic, I have had Commove on my iPod for a while... can you please explain how to play it? Doesn't seem to do anything... I just keep getting to 10 turns and no score.... what's the aim?
Photics, just another voice to add to everyone who has already chimed in here to give their support.
I have a company that is now aggressively pushing adoption of GameSalad. Come 4th August, we will be speaking to possibly hundreds of students and even lecturers at a polytechnic campus. We will be running an app-making contest for an entire nation to encourage people to pick up a copy of GameSalad Creator and mess with it, on the chance that they could win an iPhone 4 without contract, or an iPad.
It would be *awesome* if there is a GameSalad textbook that we will officially endorse and use for our GameSalad courses.
So here's looking forward to your success, and whatever I can do to accelerate it where I'm at!

Did i just hear the mention of a free iphone 4 or Ipad?? If you ever need someone to look after them I would willing do so :P
The GameSalad Textbook is completed. I think it looks great. I'm planning to make the PDF version available for sale later today. You'll be able to buy it at Photics.com.
It's a 200 pages 8"x10" book. The PDF has a table of contents and index. The both have links that work. This book is a great reference guide. That's what the community seemed to want most of all. I think this book delivers. The book is well organized and it goes through the entire GameSalad game creation process.
The artwork is amazing. I think that the cover is great. Yet, the artwork is special. The book basically tells you how to make the artwork in the book. I think I've created a phenomenal guide.
More details later today, so you should be able to see for yourself.

I think it's worth much more then $20, but that is probably the right price to charge.
Now get off of here and go finish it.

Perhaps when the contest starts its run, the community here can help check out the quality of the participating entries too.
