Totally Misc/Off Topic (I think I'm sick - anyone had Mono?)

Hey guys,
I've had type one diabetes for ten years as of this July and it makes me get sick quite a lot with various crap, from common things like the flu to things like Scarlet Fever which is very rare in this day and age.
Ultimately - I haven't been to a doctor yet but it is looking pretty likely that I have somehow contracted Mono; I've got all the symptoms including a rather painful spleen that is irritating the hell out of me.
Anyway - what I wanted to know was if anyone here has any experience with it at all, as I don't - just like, if there was anything you did/didn't do/took to help relieve your symptoms, etc.
I know this isn't the typical GS stuff, but I figure Misc. means Misc. amirite? :P
Might get no replies, maybe no one has had it, maybe you don't feel like sharing - whatever - I'm just putting it out there as my docs appt will only be 15 minutes when I can eventually get in there and while I will get some advice there likely wont be enough time for a good discussion.
Thanks, either way.

What symptoms do you have?
Typically you start out with feeling tired or lethargic, chills and loss of appetite. Then a few days later, you could get high fever, like over 101, sore throat, and swollen glands.
Does your throat look really red, sore, or feel sore and have a white coating?
I would see a doc at any rate so they can rule out what else it could be... there are so many different viruses that mimic others and have similar symptoms.
Hope you feel better!
Edit: I was also going to say that there's not much they can do for it since it's a virus (Epstein Barr Virus), so treatment would be to alleviate your symtoms: ie: Sore throat or strep throat.
It sucks because it can take up to 2 months for it to go away, so get plenty of rest!

Get well soon!

Make sure you just rest, stay hydrated, and REST.
She had to go to the docs because her throat was so sore and lymph nodes so swollen, that she couldn't take fluids very well, so she was severely dehydrated.
So just be aware of when you think you might need extra tlc.
I'm really sorry for your health, but hope you keep as positive an attitude as you can. I really believe that helps. Here's wishing you a speedy recovery!
Oh and by the way, if you have mono twice - it's called duo. Just thought you should know....
Good luck and I hope you can be 100% quickly
Just curious
Quite Ironic indeed.
My symptoms line up with all that; I've been exhausted (sleeping in 14 plus hour blocks), no appetite, throat pretty flared up today, swollen glands, painful spleen, faster pulse, fever coming and going, night sweats, peeing more but dehydrated, elevated BSLs - just to name a few >.<'
I'm trying to arrange seeing the doctor but it's difficult as I don't drive and neither does my partner; his folks live next door to us but are away at the moment - they'll be back early next week so I will try to go then - it's only a 15 minute walk but I think I'd just about die right now. XD
I don't drink tea, QS - however this might be a good excuse to get some ice cream.... :P
Butterbean, appreciate all the advice in both posts - I'm doing my best to stay hydrated although it seems to be pretty difficult - liquids are still manageable although food, eugh. I have been all teary the past few days - not sure if that is mono itself or the effect on the diabetes - but yeah, I know I'm gonna need a lot of TLC ^-^;
Mike - I'm still hoping it isn't, but I'm pretty realistic - I was trying to convince myself it was the flu or another bug or something, but with the glands up and the spleen feeling sore, maybe swollen, I'm not sure. Still, we can hope!
Thanks all of you for the kind words and nice wishes - I'll update this if I can get in to see the Doc - maybe on Monday - and yeah, hope it somehow isn't mono.
In the meantime, I'll take a little break from the apps and such, just try to rest and chill, and maybe get me some ice cream. (Those honey comb Magnums look nice!)

Let us know how you are later and what you find out. If you disappear from here too long we'll all worry
Rest up and make sure you are pampered (it helps).
Mike
I'm lucky enough to have a great partner who will take care of me and (hopefully) buy me some ice creams.
If I disappear, assume the worst and send a search party!
Hope to get in on Monday, so will update here then if I can do. My neck-nodes (I dunno what they're called :P) are up >.<'
