Ok im updating my iphone right know. Im also download the new xcode 3.2 and iphone SDK 4 as we speak. But as for gamesalad i dont need to update anything? Do i still use the same GS viewer (.8.7) to put on my iphone?
And im also kinda out of the loop sense it was finals and summer just started. Can anyone please fill me in with whats been going around gamesalad.
Is GameSalad ok?
Thanks BadAsApps.

the main new features are:
multitasking
zoom for camera (on iphone)
folders
and iAds (a new advertising network for iphone MADE BY APPLE)
EDIT: The GS viewer for iOS4 hasnt yet been released but as far as i know the current one still works.
Now GS has released a new blog post announcing what they will be focusing on in this month's update:
iOS4
and maybe iAds, multitasking...
What has been going on:
1) GS users (including tshirt and other popular figures in the forums :P) have been complaining on the lack of interesting features in the past 4-5 updates which have not really done anything to improve our sales.
this is the thread: http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=7657
2) we have been having posts voting on what new feature we want in the next updates:

thats about it...
we are all hoping on iAds because it will hopefully increase our sales (a lot!)
This is the one vague area then. What's the score with those of you who have upgraded to iOS4, everything ok, including the viewer ? Anyone NOT upgrading, whether out of technical knowledge or just plain ol' illogical fear of the unknown ?
Hope that helps,
QS

nope...your not speaking for everyone there. Quite a number of us couldnt give a s*!t about iAds, and are getting sick of hearing about it.
...apart from that, you summed up recent events quite well....
Theres no problem to Download SDK 4 Right? Lol, NOt a smart question, but need to be sure hehehe,
Do you yourself have any experience with admob?
Just curious because you seem so adamantly against iAds, just wanted to see if you could share your experience?
On a personal level... I just dont want to be seeing adverts when i fire up a game to play. I'd be watching tv if I wanted that.
Ok. i know your going to say that its gonna mean free games. But Im not a cheapskate that wants everything for free... I'd rather pay and get something decent for my money, that doesnt have any ads. And, Im guessing that some developers will be putting ads into paid products too...
So I hope on Apples part they put some sort of notification on the appstore showing which Apps are Ad enabled.. so i know which to avoid.
I just think theres an awful lot of reliance on iAds, and I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed. Theres going to be so many of you guys all trying to get a cut of the pie, that most wont get anything worthwhile.
I also think its a recipe for creating more low quality crapware to swamp the appstore even further..... lets face it, the majority of ad supported games are either very low quality, or just lite versions.
And finally, I think because of it, Gendai are being pushed into a corner, of having to try and rush something out, that isnt nearly as important as other bits of the engine that have been needing fixing/updating for far longer.
So yup.... for 4 or 5 reasons, I think iAds are a big white elephant, that for the most part, isnt going to be of any good.
I personally have a plan to make full, robust games with iAds in them, and let the buyer decide if they want to purchase the game without ads, that way they have a choice.
I think the younger audience wouldn't mind so much having iAds, where they may not have disposable income to purchase apps, but a more sophisticated adult audience would mind, so I'm going to keep that in mind when making apps with iAds in them...
We'll see how it all transpires, but I do appreciate your feedback!
I was using a free app today that had admob in it. I completely ignored the ads, and just used the app as I normally do (it's a World Cup one!). So I got to use an app, for free, and the developer has made no money from me. Nor is he likely to.
As Chunky says, I think a LOT of people are going to be disappointed when they make no money from iAds. I hope I'm wrong and you all get to dive into swimming pools made of money.
But I don't think I'm wrong.
Cheers,
QS

But I think it depends on the market your targeting with the free apps.
Sophisticated Adults, or certain age groups probably won't ever click on an ad in a free app, but if you market your free apps or design them with the right age group in mind, I think it could yield some additional income.
Not a massive amount, but additional...
I think the younger users of the itouch and iphone may be more impulsive, and therefore inclined to click on an ad. So making an app geared towards that age group may be profitable.
But if you're making a sophisticated application that you know users ages: 25 and up are going to purchase, then I doubt making it free will help you.
I think it's all about knowing your audience. Dumping any app into the Free Category, adding iAds, and expecting to get paid isn't a smart maneuver.
But strategizing which apps may do well in the Free category with iAds, versus Paid is not such a bad thing.
I guess we'll have to wait and see!
