Maximum image size for iPad

Hi; for interest, I'm putting my first iPhone app, Vacation Flips, on ice for the while (it really needs a more sophisticated random system, otherwise the Rules are going to be three feet long x 16, I'm thinking). Anyhow, so I've decided that my first game app using GS will be for the iPad. Quite excited about it really, it's called.... ah, I'm going to keep that under my hat for a while! (If i wore a hat. I seem to have a thing about hats lately...)

Anyhow, after that blab, my question: the max. size for iDevices is 1250x 1250 (1280? Grief, forgotten already), but I'm wondering what the maximum size is for use on the iPad. i'm hoping it's more... anyone tell me please?

Another thought: I've a vague memory than when using PGF, it also had a maximum picture size, but it really was a maximum file size; in other words, say it was 1250 x 1250, you could have 1500 x 1000, etc; at least I think you could. I'm wondering if that principle would be the same on iDevices...

Edit: sorry; didn't mean to bump this so early; I was amending it then without thinking I pressed Quote, thinking I was pressing Edit.

The iPad uses the same iOS as the iPhone, and the maximum graphic size is the same: 1024x1024.

The screen size of the iPad is 1024x768.

That's a shame, I was hoping to use one image to scroll (like walking across a room) but I guess it'll have to be made up of two segments.

Thank you for your help again, firemaplegames.

Yeah, just lay two actors next to each other.

If you can design it, an even better way is to use the tiling capabilities of an Actor.

You can for example, make a 128x128 image and tile that to whatever size you want 10,000x10,000 or whatever.

That way you don't get the additional RAM hit from having another actor. Sometimes its not possible, but if you can manage it, tiling is the way to go...

Thanks firemaplegames, I'd forgotten about that. Maybe some day Gendai will introduce a snap-to tiling grid as well, that'd be useful, sure you'd agree.
