iPhone 4 Mixed Reports

I know this isn't really a GameSalad question but I trust the people on this forum.

I've heard that the iPhone 4 has great reception from some sites and poor reception on others and also there are reports of screen blemishes.

    Alright - so he's here - and it's lovely!

I'm not as gutted as I thought I'd be - still love my 3GS - but it certainly feels a bit nicer, and obviously has a nicer screen.

No blemishes on the screen - no 'losing bars' when holding it. It just works.

Now I have to kill my friend and steal it...

    MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

    Thanks QS for your feedback.

Killing your friend is probably easier than queueing up inline at the Apple/Phone store. http://thenextweb.com/uk/2010/06/24/thousands-queue-as-iphone-4-launches-in-the-uk/

QS, when the deed is done I expect your 3GS in the mail.

You may include a lock of your wool as a memento; preferably not stained with your friend's blood. (Damn customs!)

Dammit. He's tougher to kill than I thought...

Wired up his chair to a battery - smoky friend, but still alive.

Poison - he just spat it out.

Pushing him off the balcony here - he resisted...

I may have to stick to my 3GS for now...

Back on topic, we compared two games we both had:

    1. Pix'n Rush
No visible difference. But please, if you love old retro games, do buy this! It's only $1!!! And I couldn't stop grinning while playing :D

    2. Carcassone
Brilliant game this, derived from a classic (european) board game. Overall there didn't seem to be much difference. There were one or two places you could see looked a bit nicer, but only if you're really looking for them.

In both cases, his screen wasn't nearly half as bright as my 3GS's, but that may be because he's had the iphone 4 less than a day and hasn't gone through to adjust the screen brightness level options etc.

Where the difference is more obvious is on text. On our respective home screens, the 3GS text looked more blurry next to the iPhone4. You wouldn't notice though if you didn't put them side to side though.

Please note - this isn't an authoritative test - we were just mucking about a bit between builds :D

And you've still had no issues with the bottom left corner signal stuff?

Frankly I don't see it being a problem - I'd hold a phone around the middle, not prop it up to on my hand.

    My friend has just said:

"I prefer the slightly curved back of the 3G - the i4 is flat, which makes for a slightly more awkward 'picking up off a table' action."

    He's clearly insane.

And no, no bottom left corner signal problems. But then he's left handed so may hold the phone differently? I don't know!!!

I would think holding it in the left hand would be worse.

In a right hand your fingers would curve on the LEFT side of the phone, with the right side the only bottom corner close to being held/covered by your palm.

Frankly even if it had terrible issues in that dept. I'd still get it.

Need ID for it, birth certificate in the mail, photo ID when I'm not sick any more - I hope I don't look awful in it. They don't let you smile >.<' (I'm going to try to smile at the last second, I think.)

    Stick your tongue out!

My friend has just received about 10 emails on his phone.

    From 2001.

    And 1970.

    Photo evidence on the way!

Great. Now I'm going to have to go back to those years with my iPhone and mail him from there....

From what I'm hearing, there is an issue if you hold the phone in your left hand. Something to do with the antenna on the side of the phone. Bummer.

Well, i was one of the brave ones yesterday that got to my local mall's Apple store at 5am and finally left with 1 iphone 4 16gb at 5:30pm... had no preorder setup, just a walk in.. there was about 300+ people waiting in line for it. it was crazy.. mad rush to the door to get in line, apple switched lines up for preorders and walkins which then people trampled each other to get in the right line, heck i got push down in some bushes and messed up my shin. Even though it was a very long day, it was worth it - this phone kicks butt!! If you get a case or the bumper for the phone it's suppose to fix the reception issues beacuse it's the human skin contact that's causing interference with the antenna.. the phone is fast, excellent picture, great picture taking. very cool doing video calls and way more.

now, can't wait to get mine from work next week.. i did all that yesterday for my wife (facepalm)

DISCLAIMER: The following was not done as a way to get around AT&T's upgrade restrictions. However, smart people may be able to see where it could help...

I WAS stuck in a 2yr contract with a iphone 3g that was to end in Feb next year! Pretty much just outside the upgrade eligibility range...!

I have been disappointed with my service for quite a while ... no bars in my apartment and stuff!

Well, I spent the last few days engaged in experiment to see if I could get AT&T to drop my contract obligations...and it worked!

I found the direct email for their support group (which was remarkably difficult) as well as the email address of their CEO (thinking it was a just decoy account or something, like Stevie reads EVERY email sent to sjobs@apple.com...) and sent them a detailed account of my issues along with a request that they either give me a free "MicroCell" or let me cancel without a fee.

I got a "copy&paste" email from the support group yesterday offering lame suggestions for improving my signal. That pissed me off even more, so I replied to that (still cc'ing the CEO) even more disgruntled.

Today, I got a call from a nice lady in the "Executive Affairs Department".

She basically said that they can't set the precedent of giving out free "MicroCells" to every customer with a poor signal, but she would be willing to let me exit my contract without a penalty. I get to remain with AT&T in my current plan indefinitely, but on a month-to-month basis.

A convenient "side-effect" of this is that I am now eligible for any promotions a "new customer" is eligible for... ;-)

Now, if I can convince the wifey, an iP4 may be in my future...
