Lite Versions - Help or Hindrance?

Hey guys,

Has anyone had experience with "lite" versions of their games? Do they actually help or hinder your paid apps? I'm really not sure whether I should release one or not.

Also, I know you can't state in a lite version what is missing but would it be okay to put something at the end of the lite version that read "continue the adventure in XX, available in the App Store"?

    I'd like to know this too - I've got a lite version created for when I'm ready to upload one of my games and it DOES currently have a message at the end like mentioned above.

    If I had my damn iPhone I'd just download a bunch and see if anyone else was doing it ^-^;

    I would say they help get your game noticed, so if it's a pretty good game you'll see a spike of sales.

    For instance, Kill the King lite boosted sales tremendously, and has continued to direct sales to the paid version I believe.

    A crappy lite version of a crappy iPad game I made- not so much.

    Watch trying to submit versions at once, I tried sending an iPhone app, with a lite version, and an HD version for the iPad with more graphics, and they said they would not allow it. They want combo versions, another thing that GameSalad does not do yet...

    Easy answer: Both
    If your game is good a lite will help it - I think most of us have upgraded from a good demo
    If it sucks and the screen shots are the best part then,
    it just makes people glad they didn't waste a buck

    That's right

    My point is to time them so that they are not evaluated together. That sets off red flags.

    When I have done them one at a time, they go fine.

    Thanks for the info. I think I will make a lite version. Pretty sure people will like the game... so far I've only shown it to a few folk (QS is one) and everyone has liked what they saw...

    I think I'll release the full version first and see how that goes. I have the lite version 99% complete but I want to wait until I can release the full game.
