G,r,r,r,r,r!! Change scene problem

Hello GS'ers,

I have a very (should be) easy problem. Ok, so here's my thing. I've got an actor "Next Button". When "Next Button" is pressed, spawn actor "flip" (courtesy Tshirtbooth's template). In the "flip" actor, there's a rule to change scene. So the "flip" actor is a actor that gives the appearance that you're flipping a page of a book. So it's animated. Simple right? WRONG! Works fine on the mac, but when I put it on the ipod, crash city! What the heck here?

So here's what i've done, i swapped the two scenes, for real, i swap them it works. Then I just changed the images to the ones they should be, and changed the "Next button's rules accordingly". It worked. So I finished the entire project with all 36 pages, put it on the ipod, crash city on the same page...page 2, g,r,r,r,r...darn you page 2.

I've deleted the image for page 2, deleted every actor that deals with page 2, re-created them, and re-imported the image I need for page 2, same thing, crash city. Any help, any anything at all would be VERY, VERY appreciated. This seems like such a simple rule, go to next scene.

I've tried making a "Next Button 2" and just having it go to page 3, that works. Only, I need to to do the page flip.

I was wondering if someone could help me with this?

Hi GingerBGames, I've had another look at Tshirtbooth's template; it seems straightforward enough; can't really see how things could go wrong. The only thing I can think of, is double-check the image used on page 2; perhaps its a strange file type, or something; not 8 bits per channel maybe; also, rather than using go to next scene, try selecting the actual scene name. But then you might have tried these already...

Hope you get it sussed; it sounds a really frustrating problem for you.

Yes, this is very frustrating. It's such a simple thing you would think.

A thought; maybe the timer is cutting it a bit too fine? i.e after so many seconds to let the animation play out, go next scene. Try perhaps adding .1 to it? Bit of a long shot maybe...

    I'll try it, thanks.

That didn't work either. Gosh, this is just a frustrating, and odd problem to have.

I would post this for people to look at and help, but it's 44.5mb, and GS has a limit of 10mb or less. I would be willing to send it to anyone that may be willing to look at it. Like I said, works fine on the mac, but once you get it on a ipod, this is where the problem is.

Take out the offending page (page 2!) and put it on your ipod (you mention that it works if you do this).

Check out how much memory it's using and lets us know. If your project size is a staggering 44.5MB I'm assuming it's all taken up by very hi-res images. These may be overloading the memory.

    Cheers,

    QS :D

I'll gladly take a look at the file for you if you like, although can't promise anything, with my limited GS experience! But certainly will try. At least another pair of eyes might help.

I'm thinking that even with the file zipped it might not get to my email; perhaps try YouSendIt if not, if you'd like to send it.

My email address is: spidergriffin@tiscali.co.uk (It's OK, my address is a spam magnet already...!)

    :-)

Edit: typing this as GS was posting...

Thank you for the offer, I'm at work right now, but as soon as I get home i'll try to send it. Even if I have to take everything but three pages out, I'll do it.

Ok, i just sent it to you. It's a VERY slimmed version of my app.

Thanks Jeremiah, i'm off to bed now (UK), so I'll take a look tomorrow, if that's OK.

    Goodnight!

Hi, I think I know the problem; it's to do with the screen origin. The buttons are set to something like 30,30, yet they are way over to the left and down from the actual 480 x 320 area. I guess the best thing to do to get rid of the large area of extra black outside the screen area is to start a fresh file, with the default iPhone Landscape Target Display, so that the buttons are actually on the screen area.

Another thing which could help make life easier maybe, in the forward and back buttons, is to have a fresh set every level, with the Rules the same in the actors: Change Scene, go to scene Next scene, or Previous scene, rather than going to a scene by name. (I know that what you have now might have been because of my suggestion, but I realise (and I'm 99% certain) that the screen origin set away from the bottom left of the actual screen area is the problem, causing the iDevice to crash.

Really hope this sorts it for you!

    ;-)

Thanks, I'll try to do that. Also, thank you for taking the time. I'll let you know if it works.

Gyroscope, thank you. I did the fresh set for each level, and that worked! Thank you so much for your help.
