Making actors turn black

Hello,

I want some of my actors to turn black when something special happens. This would be no problem if my actors would only have color values, I'd simply change them (red, green, blue) to zero.
But my actors have images, if I change the color values to zero, then -of course- it's like setting the alpha to zero, the image of the actor disappears.
Is there an easy way to turn actors with images black (or any other colour)?

I'm having trouble getting this to work on actors*...

So far, I've only been able to do this correctly with a notable golfer and the most influential politician in the world...

What I forgot: this would be easy if I'd just change the image of the actors (I could create darker versions of the images). But isn't this possible any other way?

Hm, it seems that you're right! As I wrote, I already tried setting all color values to zero, but at first it seemed that the images are going to be transparent then (one actor image in the inspector indeed is invisible when I set all values to zero there).
But if I do it when the game is running, indeed all images turn black. Great, thanks.
