Working with a template for a church fundraiser

Recently I bought several templates from here: http://gamepromarket.com/product/classic-game-pack/

Before I sink to much time into reskinning these for my church I wanted to check into the legitimacy. I realize the common sense move was to do that FIRST before forking over money - but I am not actually "in the business." I honestly wasn't aware code piracy was as rampant as it seems to be after a couple of hours reading your boards.

We are wanting to reskin these as a fundraiser -- we CERTAINLY do NOT want any legal issues. I actually asked the person I bought it from about permissions as well as credit - and she told me there really wasn't any.

Can anyone help me? A legal nightmare is not the plan here - and we certainly don't want to use code if it's stolen. How do I find out?

I can't speak to the legitimacy of that particular site. The conventional wisdom is that as long as you change the name and assets (graphics and music), it's fine to re-use game mechanics.
