Ads on my paid game

in Working with GS (Mac)

I just released my game dinosword https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dinosword/id962107247?mt=8
on the appstore for 99 cents. I have the free version of gamesalad so I did not enable ads. Ive found that ads pop up very frequently on the game. Is this because I have the free version and this is how gamesalad makes money? Is the only way to get rid of them to upgrade to pro?
