this is a quote from this mail that i've recived :

Make sure that your applications are compatible with iOS 4. All new applications and updates to existing applications must be built with iPhone SDK 4. In addition, the App Store will no longer support applications that target iOS 2.x.

1- what do they mean by IOS 2.X. ?
2-my mac is on 10.5.8 (leopard) and the sdk4 requier (snow leopard ) can i stil publish my apps on the appstore ?

    Hi

I've not tried uploading anythink since iOS4 came out, and i'm also using leopard
    so thats a little worrying

i think but i maybe wrong, the ios 2.x are the older 1st gen phones, they have literally no memory so maybe they're saying going forward they will no longer support that, it would make sense as other than puzzle games, you'll struggle to make anything run on them.
If it says you must use sd4, then sdk4 you must use

Which would totally screw me cause I don't have Snow Leopard, and don't have the money to get Snow Leopard. It is basically a Catch-22 for me if we need to us the SDK4. I don't has the OS needed to run the needed SDK and without the needed SDK I can't release apps and no apps = no money to get the needed SDK. Then again, I doubt we'll need it, cause I'm using an outdated SDK at this point but still was able to publish/make games just fine cause GameSalad itself was running the newer SDK, if I remember. So, basically, if I'm understanding this right, we won't be able to upload new apps until Gendai updates GameSalad to use the SDK4.

Oh this is awesome news... my game will be ready in about a week... if I can't upload it.... WHAT WAS THE POINT OF SEVERAL MONTH'S WORK?!?!?!?!

Snow leopard is around $30. I know money can be tight for people but I don't think it is that bad for Apple to force its developers to use the latest OS when it is only a $30 upgrade. The real issue is whether gendai will have things ready like multitasking support.

    Hijacking thread for a poll.

This may sound cruel. But if you don't have $30 for snow leopard, you shouldn't be spending $200 to develop games.

When I spent the $200 to get my game licenses, Snow Leopard wasn't required to use the SDKs. If it was, I would've gladly spent the $30 then. I don't have the money now. Simple as that. Things quickly change in 5 months. I WOULD be able to afford it if only Apple just freaking paid me! I hate their stupid ass withholding of payment until you earn $150 or more in a region. I have made close to $400 already from my games. The problem is that $400 is split up between the US/Canada, the UK, and the European Union, so I haven't been paid yet.

That second option isn't fair man. It isn't that I don't want to spend the money, it is simply that I can't. Hell any option other than the first one just smugly reeks of "If you don't have Snow Leopard, you suck."

I have Snow Leopard. Do I just need the new SDK or do I have to wait for GS to use it? I'm confused....

Polygame - while I don't pretend to understand half that stuff relating to this, if you have Snow Leopard you'll be fine. It's only people who don't who might run into issues - so your time wasn't wasted. (While I don't get this stuff, my partner who develops not using GS does - so I got him to tell me, but I didn't quite get it - just the main point which was you'll be fine, apparently.)

Koda89 - That poll option wasn't directed at you I don't think; and "No" wasn't smug :P The change option was more amusing than anything else.

I'm lucky as I got a new Macbook Pro in February, so I'm all set - my old one had Tiger on it and sadly couldn't run GS :(

Thanks for that... do I still need to download the new SDK?
  • CLAYCLAY Member Posts: 72
Humm ok ... but can someone tell me if my game that is ready NOW to be uploaded can still be uploaded by this version of my mac and/or this version of gamesalad ... And if not can someone tell me what should I do ?

Like, go upgrade your mac OR wait for the new version of gamesalad OR upgrade AND wait !

This is getting really frustrating ... I'm working on this game since December 2009

When you upload your game to GS for publishing to the App Store your game is built by GS on their servers and they are using the latest SDK so you are OK, I don't know why codemonkey didn't confirm this.

Servers should be just fine to upload your gameproj and we send you something that should be ready for the app store. As long as your GameSalad Creator is at least 0.8.6.

I just put up the poll to see who was still using Leopard since Xcode needed for installing the GS Viewer on iPad is only available for Snow Leopard.

Changing to Snow Leopard: I'm worried, been biting my fingernails, and everything... ;-)

Seriously, a lot of the major programs I use, which I admit there's no way I can afford to upgrade, are all showing a few whiskers now (Photoshop & Illustrator CS2, for instance). I'm a bit concerned i'll have problems there, but as Snow Leopard is needed for the version of Xcode er, needed, as CodeMonkey mentioned, I'll have to take the plunge eventually.

Anyone else in a similar situation?

Photoshop CS2 works fine, mate :D

    No worries, fella.

In fact, I can't think of a single program that *doesn't* work with Snow Leopard...

Even better! I'll take the "Snow Leopard plunge" (I hear it's similar to bungie-jumping) sooner than later now. Thanks again!

Ah, thanks for that. Well I don't even have an iPad yet, so I'm not in too much of a hurry to get Snow Leopard, though I eventually will.

Wait so can you still download the viewer on your iPhone or iPod with ios4 without snow leopard? Just wondering..
  • AfterBurnettAfterBurnett Member Posts: 3,474
So I don't need the SDK at all? I just wasted 2.5GB of precious download data! DOH!!!

Oh well, I intend to dabble with objective C once I get a it more spare time so I guess I need it anyway...

forced upgrades are annoying, but it's hardly surprising?

it is easier for all to deal with bugs if the software base* is more uniform.

I just hope it doesn't "break" any of my existing software (to upgrade)

    *all your software base.
