Major update or sequel?

I'm remaking one of my games from scratch, because it's really slow and buggy and I've learnt a lot more since I made it, however I'm not sure whether to just update the original game or release it as a completely new one. I've heard things about the rankings system of the App Store with new apps or something, so I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

If it your current game(without your restart) is doing well definatley push and update. However, if your game isnt getting much attention try uploading it as a new game but with a slightly different story line(or something like that) but something should change otherwise people will wonder why your uploading the same exact game.

What is considered successful? At the moment it's getting on average one download a day, as a free app. The changes I'm making are significant in appearance but the core gameplay is the same. Meaning I've redone all the menu graphics and animations, and added an extra gameplay mode, however even though I'm making it from scratch the gameplay is very similar, just smoother.

Normally these sorts of changes might be added one by one as updates, but because im doing it all at once, is where I'm getting stuck on what I should do.

Are there any benefits to releasing a new app as opposed to an update or vice versa?

How many installs does your current game have? And importantly, how many active users?

If you still have a healthy number playing, you could just do an update. Or, you could push an update with an advert for the Version 2 release.

If your active users are tiny, then unpublish the app and push the new one but get your key wording right and market is on social media to drive more downloads.

As of now it had 458 downloads and was released September 2013, however i'm not sure how to determine active users.

i have apps with those numbers. honestly it's probably best to just move on. just focus on a new app.
