Hey guys. So I've been working on a game for about 2 months now called Lava Frog, where you would have to accurately jump from block to another, and your score goes up for every block you land on. I was looking through the App Store today, and found that a few days ago Ketchapp released a game called Spring Ninja, which is exactly the same as my game! Same mechanics and everything. Only thing different was the graphics. Slightly frustrating. So do i carry on with my game now? If i release it it will just look like i reskinned a clone of Spring Ninja!

Wow, that's very frustrating
If I was you - I wouldn't release it, it will just look like a clone.
if its better than their one, I would. Sometimes people like the concept of a game but look for another way of playing it. Just look at all the flappy bird clones.
Like Balls? Then click here! We've 100 coming soon
That happend to me a few months ago, and it sucks to see your idea beeing release before you are done and then getting featured by Apple. But the thing is, there is nothing that says that your or my game would have been a hit if we had released it first, but that's how our brains work...What IF?
+1
If you can release it asap, you might be able to ride their coattails.
I would still release it. No since in letting all that hard work go to waste when this may be actually work in your favor. Also I wouldn't care if others think that it's a clone when you know that you've been working on it well before their app was even released.
It's not a bad thing. It means there is an audience for your game. Just add a new game element and you will have a new game. I always recommend people read the book "Thinkertoys" as it will show you how to easily create game ideas or game play elements.
This has happened to me too, but like I said it's not a bad thing. As long as you add value by having more game elements so that you don't have a clone but a new hybrid game, you are fine.
Check out my videos on creating new game ideas. They are techniques straight out of Thinkertoys:
They aren't entertaining by any means but the information is excellent.
I would totally release your game. Just take a day or so and study the competitive app and see if you can find ways to add & improve upon the concept.. If anything, you have a chance to see what they might be doing wrong or not as well and you'll have the chance to improve on it..
And before anyone screams CLONE, think about Space Invaders......and then think about Galaga, Gorf, etc. I'm sure the folks that put out Galaga didn't make any money at all for being a clone.. Nope...not a single quarter.. <Grin!>

release the game. ignore the other one. it's irrelevant.
"Publish and be Damned!!"
There are very few original ideas anymore so don't worry about clone rumours, just think of the pennies, lots and lots of bright shiny pennies all in your deserving hand
Hi everyone, thank you all for responding! Ive decided that i will carry on making my game, but will be integrating a level system rather than single scene play, so that the game gets harder, more obstacles to over come, and a bit more to the game than just beating highscores. Thanks again!
Build bigger and better, thats the way to go
