How GS makes you feel

Hey guys, just wanted to start a forum on how you feel about GS, or game development in general. I was just wondering if it was just me, or, sometimes in the process of game development I just want to rip my hair off. Sometimes it gets me so stressed out that I just shout at my family for no reason (hahahahha) and all I want to do is relax. Dont take this the wrong way, because no doubt i still love making games, I mean i wake up every morning thinking about game making. I jump out of bed and go straight to GS but sometimes I just have those moments where it drives me crazy...But if i really think about it I guess its those moments that make this process fun! Just wanted to hear everyone else's feelings on this and if you ever have those times where you just want to take a break...

I got SO frustrated early on. I was ready to strangle my partner >.<'

I've found now that I just poke at it whenever I feel like it and don't push myself too much - I do little tasks one at a time rather than saying; "OK, today I will devote to X game."

I still get the odd time where everything goes to hell and I get pretty pissed off, but typically a beer and some cookies (odd combo, I know) makes things seem alright again :)

If I recall correctly you're only about 15 - so I hope GS isn't taking time away from homework :P

I love it but time seems to move differently when I'm on it... I mean only to spend a couple of hours but then days pass me and I look up and realise I best get some real work done...

I still love it but I frustrate myself because I hit the 'creative plateau' where I get half way through a game and suddenly want to start another... it takes all my strength to break through to the end..

A pause would be good though...

It's a tool, but using it is quite enjoyable after you figure out how the basics work.

I get distracted by this forum. I see a lot of questions that I'd like to answer, but when I start looking into it, I realize I don't know. So then I spend time rolling it around in my head, and after a while... somebody posts the solutions. Sometimes I've figured it out, but usually, I see the answer that think DOH!

    I'm having fun.

I get that all the time; in fact, I've had so many DOH!s over the last couple of weeks, I could bake a cake...bake a cake, get it? Oh, never mind.... ;-)

Seriously though, I'm pleased that my "Oh, I see"s are now outweighing my DOH's, of late. (It's called the OhISee DOH Ratio, I believe...)

I truly admire what the guys at Gendai have done with GS; although it has its small foibles and headaches, the more one gets into it, the more its realised what a powerful app it really is, disguised as the opposite.

I guess pulling your hair out is worth it, if the solution to a particular problem is eventually found; then it makes all the stress worthwhile! I've been guilty recently of running to the Forum too soon; a bit more thought and working on the prob for an hour or so's more, and the solution is often found!

GS gets you like that, I'm finding. Sometimes a time away from the computer though, trying to push all thoughts away to do with game-making, can "recharge the batteries" sometimes, and you get back to GS with a refreshed mind, I find. (That rhymes!)

    Impressively paradoxical.

Honestly, GameSalad made me feel very important.
It makes me feel like "Hey!! I'm not only asking my parents for money, but is trying to make some money. (I'm only 16)
I can make my parents become proud of me. Now they know that I'm not only spending money!
:) I can't express it through words, but I'm very very happy.

@MagoNicolas, feel the same way when it slows down. I am never able to work on a project for more than 2 hours without my macook heating up and everything slowing down. It drives me crazy! I will be getting a new iMac soon. Would like to get the MacBook pro but I really just can't stand laptops anymore, so don't know if I will work on any big projects until I get my iMac. For now I'll just take a break, get to know GS more and plan for upcoming projects. My game farm showdown is selling 5-15 daily so I'm fine to take a break from everything right now :)

I'm with Quantum and Mago. On a good day, awesome! On a bad...!@#!#$

I just really wish they would simply certain things. I think there should be a few behaviors that are standard...like walking for one.

@Artonsky: Be cool, stay in school! (I know cheesy)

I got an iMac and I'm so happy with it. It would drive me crazy too when my Macbook would practically melt my skin off after a few hours of working on it, but you will be very happy with your iMac once you get it. Much easier to work with, I hardly ever use my Macbook now unless on vacation

Good for you on sales for Farm Showdown! That's very awesome for your first app!

What I think you had going for your game too was the name, and you nailed the icon. And it's a unique title, you can't go wrong with farm animals!

GameSalad makes me feel stupid. xD It really does. I just started using it, but I have no idea what I'm doing, and it seems like the program is designed for people who know what they're doing when they use it. The only thing that's been saving me so far is this GameSalad Wiki and Tutorial videos, but even then none of the tutorials seem to ever apply to the kind of game I'm currently trying to make, which really worries me. o__o"

@WolfieEnsalada, felt the same way when I started. Trust me, if you just started using it, do not start on a big project. I made the same mistake when I started but I then just put my project aside, and learned how everything worked for about 2 months. Even though it was a long wait it was definitely worth it. For now get to know the GS community, and learn the basics of the tool, and then after that start on your big projects. It will definitely make the whole process a lot more fun when you actually know what you're doing :)

At first I was like, "How the hell am I gonna figure this out?". Then I started manipulating templates, and finally I'm working on a game that, pictures aside, I am doing everything on my own. No templates used or anything. Though, I must admit, this said game is a LITTLE derivative. Half of it is like Asplosion, the other half is like Star Daze, but hey, at least I was able to do this game on my own. :P

GS makes me feel very slooooow and its takin ages to make a game. Also te bigger he game gets the slower GS runs

When I started learning Xcode and Ocjective C I found that i found it much more enjoyable and challenging. Now that I've made 2 Xcode apps (1 for a website) and I'm back to GS I feel kinda bored.
I recon GS would be much better if it let you add your own objective c

    I still love GS though

You should be able to take the project files, once converted and import them into Xcode for further editing if you want. I'm not sure if that is the difference between the $99 and the $2000, but it would be a huge help.
