Implementing the controller beforehand

Hi, I'll be using the mac version in a few days, I wanted to know if there was anything I could do to prepare my game for controller setup? It's a sidescroller that would be great on console.
Will there be any attributes or rule groups I could create beforehand with GS 12 so that when I bring it in to Mac GS 13, I could just type in the button layout and have it ready? Would it be possible to type it now and it would just be recognized when I import it to the newer version?
