New iTunes Connect-- How do you target a binary to a specific device?

I may be "behind the curve" on this, but where/how do you target your binary to a specific device (ie: iphone only, ipad only) on the new iTunes connect? Is this even possible anymore?

    Hey @iKandy - You really don't specify that in iTunes Connect. The site will know which device the game is intended for by the way you publish in the GameSalad Publishing Portal. So if you publish on the iPhone tab, Apple knows the game is for iPhone. If you publish on the Universal tab, Apple knows to target all of their devices. Make sense?

    Yes, it makes sense, but does that mean that you have to create a new app record on iTunes connect with all the same info, but a different name and differently sized screenshots? It used to be clear on iTunes connect that you were submitting something specifically for ipad or iphone but now it's not.

    I'm not sure I understand. Why would you need to create another app in iTunes Connect? Are you submitting the same app but for each platform (iPhone, iPad)?

    Yes, the same app but adjusted for a smaller screen. I realize that you can set camera controls, etc. but sometimes you just need to make manual adjustments so a game works better on a smaller screen.

    If you're submitting the app for iPhone and iPad but not for Universal, then yes, you will have to create 2 separate apps on iTunes connect.

    So how do you designate that a binary is only for iPhone in the new iTunes connect? I've looked all through the application process and I don't see it.

    You say this happens in the publishing process but it's still not clear when you're filling out the application record in iTunes Connect.

    @iKandy

    Did you create an "iPhone" platform on your Gamesalad App Publishing page?

  • iKandyiKandy Imagineer of Crazy Shit New York CityMember Posts: 310

    Actually, the Gamesalad Publishing Platform no longer supports "iphone." It only has IOS Universal as an option now.

    @iKandy

    Just added iPhone. I haven't seen any notice that iPhone publishing has been removed.

    Oh... I just discovered there's a little drop down menu that says "new" in which you can create an iphone app.

    So how do you target the device in iTunes Connect? By publishing as iPhone I suppose, but I'd feel better if the iTunes connect would say that.

    @iKandy

    I think it's safe to assume that because you are only uploading an iPhone build, the app will only be available for the iPhone. Another sign that it will work is that when you upload the screenshots, don't post any pictures to the iPad section.

    If you are able to upload the app without any iPad screenshot errors, it will signify that the only targeted device is iPhone.

    OK... Rapid Parrot, I'm going to go with your assumption and report back. (When it comes to this kind of stuff, however, I never assume anything.)

    @iKandy

    Well, it's an analytical assumption. The app store won't post an iPad app without iPad screenshots.
