You have to be an Express or Elite user to Publish?

So you have to pay $99 or $1,999 to publish a game on the iPhone or iPod Touch? If so, the express can be used just as well as the elite right? except for a few features...

    You are correct

The 99 membership does everything you need

the only thing it lacks is the in game URL linking and ability to have your own splash screen while the game loads.

It will say made with game salad.

Completely separate you need to be a registered developer with apple. That costs $99 as well.

So 200 bucks and you are making iphone games.

Alright cool. I'm fine with it saying made with gamesalad, would that affect my sales? I was also wondering what is in game URL linking? for high scores and such?

No it wont effect your sales at all. People typically dont even know what that means and they dont see it until they buy it anyways.

URL lining is when you click something and it opens safari or the app store.

For example if you have a lite version and have a button that says click here to buy the full version. they click and it takes them right to the full version in the app store.

High score servers (open fient etc.) are not supported yet.

Ok, thanks man. I have one more question though. How would I go about marketing my game and how much of an impact on my sales would that really make? or does that just depend on the type of marketing I do?

In my opinion, Marketing is very important!!.
After the game is removed from new application list. The 2 main ways people can find your app is through keywords, and outside websites.

ok so my main priority for marketing is posting on websites like these and any other website that has to deal with iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches. Also, keywords.

I had a very interesting chat with a coder today about just this...

He opined that with the app store, and digital distribution in general, the role of publishers, distributors and retailers is threatened. The traditional model will become obsolete.

Instead, marketing will become the new king of digital distribution.

I think he may be onto something...

I think that digital distribution on iPhone would be great. THey need to make it so that you can market your game or app on the actual app store. If they had a separate place just for marketing your app then the sales would sky rocket. For intense if they had a separate spot in the app store just for marketing then ALL of the sales would increase. therefor apple would be making more money and so would the creators. its a win win situation.

Only that part of the store would become saturated with only the big boys having enough money to be visible.... deja vu anyone?

Indeed- coder friend mentioned there should be separate stores for indie and pro devs.

I'm not sure i agree, though a lot of people I know do!
