How to Reserve an App Name for good

Have the rules changed for reserving an app name on the iOS app store? How about for Android?

I read somewhere that you are only able to reserve a name for 180 days and if you fail to upload a binary by then, you as a developer could never use the name again. I've also read somewhere that uploading a binary is no longer necessary and all you have to do is insert the new app name in iTunes Connect, but couldn't seem to find any info on this directly from iTunes Connect. All in all, I'd like to reserve my name without having to finalize all of the details of the app.

I believe that once you add a new application the name is set for 180 days unless you upload a binary. However, since you can change the name and then replace it with the same one, I am not sure if that resets the date or not. I haven't had any trouble keeping my app names. Just don't let them sit idle for months on end.

i don't know if they expire after 180 days anymore, i've had a few apps sitting for much longer than that.

it used to be that 90 60 and 30 days before it was to expire you would get a warning. if you uploaded a build and immediately rejected the build it would reset the counter, so it was pretty easy to keep the name.

After you reject the build, are you still able to essentially start from scratch as if the app never existed? For example, if I reserve an app with Developer Account X and then reject the app 6 months later, will I be able to resubmit using Developer Account X OR Developer Account Y as well as be able to restart the description, keywords, etc. as a blank slate?

Just want to make sure because I'm going to probably create a separate developer account down the road for branding purposes and don't want to face complications.

It's stuck to the account you originally registered with unless you go rename it and then pickup the same name with the other, and hope no one else is doing the same
