A forum to help beginners understand the math side of things. Like how basic to expert physics work. What is an integer?
Stuff like that. There is not alot of info in the tutorials for what things really do. In really simple terms.
I might be asking too much. Anyways just curious.

I think this would be a great idea.

What does the 'index' attribute do... I have got my head round Boolean, integer and real but the others scare me a bit...

An index is simply a positive integer. It cannot be negative.

    Where am i going wrong?

I'd like to learn how to do all the really cool math stuff using cos, sin... the list goes on... although it really does start to become "programming", I'd like to understand it better, rather than just copying templates etc. Would be great to have an actual "manual".

hey guys (sorry for my english)
check out the wiki for how tos and Reference Library, learn everything in the gs program
then have a look on some of the demos , (in the shared projects section),
i dedicated about 3 days for study everything i could before i started,
(i still learn everyday something new just by reading threads here)
there are some youtube tutorials too! check them out,
then when you understand how thing works,
    you can work your magic!

Yeah but there's nowhere near enough in the wiki... and most of it is only partial information and not very well described. Most of the tutorials are pretty simple, too... nothing in-depth math-wise.

dont get me wrong , i think its a good idea to make a section of math explanations
cause using a single mathematical rule can replace bunch of sets of rules, means increasing performance!

but you can learn a lot of the basics math rules from the wiki and the templates ..

I highly recommend the Khan Academy:
    http://www.khanacademy.org/

It is a fantastic resource for learning mathematics.

Thanks, Joe! I shall check it out! I'll have a binary for you soon too, complete with level select... it's hidden though, like a good, old fashioned cheat ;-)

I agree POLYGAMe. That is why I think it would be great if we could have a forum dedicated solely to math stuff. I have been through alot of the tutorials but I get totally lost when I get advice from people because I do not understand what they tell me.
I really need it broken down, step by step, and built up to complexity. I am a dedicated learner and can grasp concepts pretty easy if they are layed out in 123 style with clear explanations.
Some people assume that we all know math.
I know it becomes programming at this point, but GS says it is for the 99% of us who do not know how to program!
Anyways, maybe if we can keep this thread alive it can become a main forum topic.

Sous Chef I checked out the Khan Academy. Whoa!
It looks great...but dang my head started hurting with the amount of info offered. I just want to know the mathematics of making an actor move back and forth or in a certain pattern =)

yep great place if you know what question to ask, numbers, we dont need no stickin numbers....waaaawaaaaawaaaa I should have paid attention in math instead of debbie walkers ta tas. but I got that number right, two that was all the math I thought I would need.
