Hi GS'ers,

I'm just curious if anyone out there has had a chance to be contracted out by any person(s) or company to make an app? I've got a University that wants us to make an app for them, a newsletter. We had talks with them yesterday and they liked what they seen. **I should mention that this was just an introduction**! Any who, they got to the scary talk of compensation for doing something like this and I've got about 140 hours into this myself. Also, help from GS programer WayneH001 and Gyroscope(thanks you two for all the help). Now, here's my question, what would be a good price for compensation? I've looked on the old inter-web there, and it seems that $45/hr is going rate right now. Does that seem right?

Anyways, they agreed yesterday at the 45/50 an hour. Today they called and said they didn't get approval for that amount, but they can go $1,000 - $1,500 for the entire project. I think that's still good, but is it worth doing it after all that time put into it? Here's my thing, I paid $1600 total for the ability to do this, two computers, and my GS membership, and Apple Development. So $1500 is almost breaking even. $45 is standard, they are offering $10. They want an iphone version and an iPad version. They want there current issue done for sure. They also asked if I would do their previous 20 issues included in that price?

What would you all do?

Offer to meet in the middle... $27.5/hr

They obviously see value in your product, they will be willing to negotiate!

$10 an hour is too low. You know what Indians get doing this? (No disrespect to Indians, but obviously due to economic differences they do typically work for a much lower rate.)

An Indian app creator makes a median of $19.50 per hour.

If you need the money, might get future work, or really want to do it - then do it.

But frankly you need to be asking for $20 per hour minimum if you want to be (more than) fair.
