Ive thought long and hard about straitening out any bugs that I had the last time I announced this competition. I think I have a good amount of the kinks ironed out but I still need to make sure I have applicants before going through with this idea.

Heres the deal, Ive always wanted to host a "who can make the best" app/game competition! So here I am finally with the suggested settings. I think the competition will start very soon (if I get approval from you guys) and it should last through the day of Halloween and no later. This will give people time to get individuals voting for their game and all of that stuff.

There will be NO entry fee for the competition. All you have to do is fill out the form and you get your place on our site and your enrolled in the competition. Everyone likes free stuff right? That was one of the big concerns last time I tried the idea so this time ITS COMPLETELY FREE!

So are you still lost? Im sorry, Ill catch you up. I would love to host a competition where members from here on GameSalad and other users from other small companies will make (just games this year) and apps in a competition to find out who the best developer is. For all of those speculating and saying "why would I do this" heres my response: why wouldnt you??

Its totally free, we are giving you your own space on our competition website, you have no loss, you were going to develop your game anyways you just might have to hold off 2 weeks to release it, and you can win prize money if you come out on top!!! Theres absolutely NO risk what-so-ever!

Of course for those of you with the money there will be available upgrades if you want to get your app more noticed. Like being the featured game of that month of the competition and being allowed to post more pictures of your app and videos and even get your app bumped to the top of the list of apps in the competition.

So we are basically going to allow a description of you, your company, and your app with up to 5 pictures posted for the free option. You will automatically be granted this and you are allowed to change your progress on the app by updating that section on your page and by updating your 5 pictures.

As for the voting, every person that enters their email for the ticket generator will receive 5 free votes. They may browse the selection and vote 1 time for 5 different people or however they want to distribute their votes. Obviously they will see the paying competitors first and they will have videos not just pictures but its likely they will still put many of their votes into the free competitors too.

Any additional votes will probably cost just a little bit but probably not much so that voters aren't deterred (some suggestions on additional voting pricing will be good thanks).

Of course the site will be advertised so we will get you some onlookers before the end date and finally when the competition is over you will have to send your completed app and provisioning profile off for judging by a select few chosen by me who will make the decision (unbiased people who know a lot about apps). "Grading rubrics" will be posted a few days into the competition.

Finally, this is just about having fun. Your app cant be already submitted to the app store or be submitted during the competition until a winner has been chosen. Then you are free to do whatever you want with your app and the prize money! Cant you just wait a little bit and try to win the free competition? Also this is FREE publicity too! You are going to get your app out there in front of everyone in the competition and the voters so that makes it even better, people will buy your app more once it hits the app store. I hope to launch this sometime next week, let me know what you think!!! Ill keep you posted and PLEASE leave comments telling me of any kinks you think I need to work out or anything that you think is unclear.

I will begin taking entries and setting up the site soon! The reward will probably be a few hundred dollars for the winner and if we have enough people purchasing extra pictures spots etc. there could be a prize in the thousands :D (thats nothing to blink an eye at for an app).

Thanks in advance, I hope you like the idea. There cant be many complaints the dang thing is free!

Sorry to bump this but I really really really need your opinion to see whether I can push this through or not.

I'm sorry but that is way too long of a post. Perhaps a little paraphrasing would benefit you (by benefiting us :D)

The only downside is the waiting part. If I have an app that makes $10 a day and I wait 3 and half months I just lost around $1000. If I have an app that I am just starting now then it would make sense.

Okay heres the short bit for you Eastbound :D

    - App Competition
    - Sign up FREE
    - Get space for posting stuff about your app
    - Cant put app on app store until competition is over
    - Optional purchases for promotion of app
    - Voters get 5 free votes
    - Voters can purchase more
    - Official end date August 20
    - Starts next week
    - FUN FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS

@scitunes I know but you could also say 3 1/2 months = 1000 for the competition and then you keep making money after you submit. No one is losing money unless you want to promote on the site more. Keep suggestions coming. Thanks!

So it's sort of a vanity press that emulates all the features that we already get for free at iTunes?

Except you can buy votes and stuff the ballot box?

And while our app is here someone else can copy it and get it onto the iTunes store first, during the "competion" period?

    That about it?

    @IntelligentDesigner

I really dont think anyone will be able to create the quality of a game like yours if you design it good enough. Plus I always reserve the name in itunes connect when I first start an app with "dummy" information. And no Im not sure it has anything in common with itunes because itunes doesnt give you 1000 dollars for winning a competition.

But you just said there is no competition. Surely voters purchasing votes, does not constitute a real competition. It's more like a presidential election.

And you originally said you can't put the app on the AppStore until the "competition is over", Now you can?

What did you provide that iTunes did not already give for free? Did I miss something? I read your original post pretty carefully, and then your bullet list.

Nope these apps can't be submitted before the end date idk where you got that from. Read carefully and still it doesn't even relate remotely to iTunes. And I don't know, if we scratched the buying votes bit and I just hired a panel of judges would the competition sound good then.

    Seriously!?

How is anyone going to know an app is worth a damn if they CAN'T USE IT?

Take away "the can't release to appstore" clause and this wouldn't seem so pointless...

He might have got that impression from this bit:

@scitunes I know but you could also say 3 1/2 months = 1000 for the competition and then you keep making money after you submit.

I think you need to be clearer. In general.

He means, I think, "How will people know which game is worthy of their votes if they can't play the games till AFTER the competition."

    Thanks QS.

What barkbark00 is saying is that it is hard to judge whether a game is fun or not if you cannot play it.

I'm not clear what the voters, who are not the "select chosen few", will be judging the games on?
    The description of the game?

And buying votes does not make a whole lot of sense.
If I spend $6000 on votes, do I win?

In that case, what are the judges for?
  • SethsAppsSethsApps Member, PRO Posts: 328
If there is a panel of judges why would there need to be voters? I discussed earlier of dropping the whole voting thing.
