'App Inventor for Android' - eeek... looks alright...

Hope GS don't mind me posting this, but it makes for interesting and possibly tempting discussion.

Google have just announced 'App Inventor For Android', drag and drop to create your own games and apps...

I don't own an Android phone myself, I'm a pure Mac geek I'm afraid.

But this is interesting, I wonder how long it will be before rubbish apps are flooding the Android Store... or what amazing apps/games can be created with it.

Looks a lot like the one I saw available for Palms Web OS.

What do people think?

(Just had a quick look, as I'm at work... it allows access to GPS info and access to websites outside the app, keyboard and texting functions of phone.... GameSalad, please hurry up with an update)...

Haha, too late, that's already happened. There doesn't seem to be anywhere near the control of apps that Apple has with the App Store. They have a ton of free Android Apps that are nothing but spam.

This will make it much worse.

As a teaching platform it will blow GS out the window

It might mean your making apps for a crowded messy market place...

but to have access to all the phone features is very cool... use the camera to take photos of your face which is then mapped onto your character in the game, which uses the GPS to know where you are in the world which changes the environment in the game, and using the text to speech function to read out a long narrative story. You then compelte the game which automatically updates the games official website, and your facebook status and composes a text ready for you to send to all buddies...its a technological wonder world...

But...I'll probably stick with GS cause I love my iphone...apple...this forum...and love looking forward to GS updates...

So you can publish Android Apps with this program now?

This might be the answer some people were seeking awhile back in terms of ease of publishing much like Gamesalad!

It is a closed beta. Selection for the beta seems to be biased toward educators and students.

Also Gendai cant exactly compete with Google.... This program is going to turn into a monster! Constant, awesome updates! Although the UI is sh*t... Nowhere near GS, but who really cares..

Looks pretty cool to me! Although it looks like they are making it much more geared towards utility apps rather than games. I wish I had more time to check it out, but perhaps I can later.

Do you need a google phone that has a data plan? Or could you just use one that's unlocked for testing?

I think I'm gonna give it a go too, but it looks like you have to have the phone to even do anything with it?

Edit: Does look like they're making it closed to educators only, but it's not yet ready for testing right?

Looks like a cool idea in theory.
    But kind if lame.
Can't imagine making a game with that.
Although I doubt they are worried there.

I'm sure google knows with android support about to hit a couple the biggest engines, they will be seeing a good number of iPhones hottest titles very soon.

    @ tshirt...well found...

oh well, maybe they will open it up for the market place later in life...

Will be a cool bit of kit for schools and companies wanting private apps, which they don't want put out on the app store. E.g. a corporate company wanting to have interactive tablets running an app showing off their new products, videos, text, pdfs etc.

the gamesalad forums are not really the place to be talking about how to use other products, I'm sure the app inventor has their own forums.

The guy came on for a grand total of two minutes and posted something not related to GameSalad really.

    Some people have no shame!

I tried this app inventor thingy when it was released as a beta - couldn't get on with it to be honest, too used to GameSalad :P

We all heard about it 9 mths ago when it was posted. There's a reason no one has heard about it since then. It's not a good product.

Either way, it has nothing to do with gamesalad, and as such, really doesn't belong on these forums.

    Hey, all. Closing this thread.

User account that bumped this to the top, only registered 1 hour ago and this is the only post on the forums. No reason for this thread to be back up in front. Nothing new here. Shuttin' it down.
