Why Does GS Version 0.13.7 REQUIRE you to be online??? This is ridiculous!!!

This is truly a PAIN in the butt. We currently don't have internet at the house which is a nightmare in itself. Opened a project last night to continue working on it but found I was not able to because it could not sign me in to my GS account and only gave me the options to "sign in", "quite", "I forgot my password", or "create a new account". I couldn't open the project in an older version as it has been made in this version. Also, all older versions work fine offline. How am I suppose to get any work done. This is ridiculous! Pretty annoyed at the moment!

if I recall correctly you have to be online every 3 days to authenticate. once you authenticate you're good for another 3 days.

Yes, if you have automatically login check and you have logged in once you can login offline for 3days. I will be expanding it to a week in a future update.

Perhaps a better approach would be to have it allow you to work offline for any period of time you desire, but after 3/7 days the Pro functionality gets removed until you next sign back in?

Or are there other compelling reasons for this restriction?

We recently implemented a change that requires users to log into their GameSalad account before using Creator. This lets us have better visibility into how people use the tool and where they run into problems so we can better understand how to help new users get farther in the game making process. For those of you who use the product regularly, check the “Login Automatically” box, and you won’t be bothered for your credentials again. Once you’ve logged in, you’ll be able to access the tool even if you’re offline, for up to 3 days (and we’ll up that to 7 days in a future release). We’re sorry if this inconveniences anyone, but it’s very important to see where we can help or improve. With more developers completing more games, the GameSalad community will continue to thrive.

From a business perspective this is still way too lenient. Sure it can be a temporary handicap as in your case @KillerPenguinStudios , but it is not without reason that more and more software moves to an "always on" solution. There are reasons why we can't have nice things.

Exactly what level of detail do you have access to when seeing "how people use the tool"?

@Armelline We track things like how often people use Creator, and whether they use the templates or respond to promotions. We do not track specifics of your game building behavior. We're also integrating this tracking into our CS system to better help you when you have a problem. This also sets the foundation for future cloud based features.

Sounds fair, thanks for the response! How do you establish if they use templates, though? Links to the marketplace, or examination of files/filenames or something else?

@Armelline the templates he referred to is likely the sample templates on the creator's start screen so simply clicking such would register as "one use" (my guess)

It's just a click track on the dashboard. We're hoping to see which templates are popular, which are not, and if the templates are used often by first time users.

That makes perfect sense. I feel very stupid now for totally overlooking that!

Well, you're not - I know it, other people know it and you know it. We all "think to fast" sometimes so relax and have a beer :)
