Is there a gamesalad equivalent for producing Apps?

Hi there,

What I mean by Apps, are basically anything that is non game related. I was going through Appypie website, and the App it produces just seem crap. What I mean are the professional looking Apps like Whatsapp, ibooks basically an App so good it would make a big business wanna buy it.

On an unrelated note, I was wondering, there seems to be a market for buying graphics for Gamesalad, which would mean that you will probably have lot of games with different names but with the same graphics, I was wondering, how can someone become good at producing his own graphics. It seems like this is one of the major hurdles for making a unique game you can actually call your own, please advise.

Thanks.

Nothing drag and drop that I'm aware of. Appcelerator Titanium is a fairly easy to learn scripting/programing environment for app creation.

Depends how serious you want to get. You could spend four years in art school or you look up tutorials for specific art packages online and learn on your own.

  • Hi Jamie,

Thanks for your quick reply. Basically I love videogames and I'm sick of working in the corporate world, so I want to do my own games and try to sell them or use advertising to be able to make a good enough living. I have dabbled with game salad for a while, and I have to say I am enjoying the process, it really isn't as complicated as it seems.

I guess I'm not really sure what I want to do, using graphics which are already made will help me to get a game into the app store within maybe 6 months. Trying to draw them myself, which I have to admit will give me so much satisfaction once the game has been released but it will probably take a long time to do this.

I think I may start off a project with some ready graphics, but do people respond well to these kind of games? will they be downloaded, if some of the graphics are recognized will people just stop playing because they will think it's a rip off? I wonder.

I don't really know the answer to that. To me the actual gameplay is more important than the graphics but I might be in the minority on that one. I typically create all my own graphics so I don't have that issue.

If you don't want to use pre-made images and don't have the time to learn and make your own you might consider paying an artist to work on the project(s) with you. If you search the forum here you'll see there are a lot of very good artists around.

  • Yeah, that's a good idea. let me see, thanks for your replies.
