0.8 slows to a crawl after 5 minutes

Is it just me or does 0.8 slow down so its unusable after a few minutes forcing you to shut down and reboot.

When your working 16 hours a day with it it gets frustrating.

On the flip side it hasnt crashed yet!

Darren.

I have to restart it about every 10-15 minutes or so.

The worst thing to do is run and simulate the game. Seems most of the leaks are in the desktop previewer.

For me it has crashed multiple times already....just today it crash I think 3 or 4 times! It's actually crashing at a faster rate than any of the previous versions for me....

It doesnt crash for me, but it has the same slowdown that GameSalad has always had. I restart it every couple of minutes.

what is your hardware FMG? I'm still getting crashes but now they are just a black screen ...not the usual kernel panic display.
  • firemaplegamesfiremaplegames Member Posts: 3,211
I have a 17 inch MacBook Pro with 8 GB of RAM. I had one kernel panic the second day of using GameSalad back in late November, but I havent had a single problem since.

I do get the slowdown that everybody gets though. And I have the maximum amount of RAM for this machine.

I know everybody was in an uproar over iAds, but when they fix this slow down issue - that will be my all-time favorite update!

Thanks very much, I totally agree about the slowdown. I see stability, performance and the user experience as being key to the future success of GS as they are the vital parts that go into making great Mac software.

ps which graphics system does your MacBook use? :)

I have a 1.5GHz Core Solo, 1GB RAM and it runs fine... less crashes than 0.8.7 but it has screwed the timers in my game!!!!

@polygame When your system crashes, is it a hard crash (you have to turn the power off), graphics card? thanks
  • firemaplegamesfiremaplegames Member Posts: 3,211
@rob: the Macbook pro has a special graphics chip in it and you can choose regular mode or graphics intense mode. I use the graphics intense mode. I am not near my machine right now, i will confirm specifics later.

@polygame: just be thankful you werent around for 0.8.3! We all had to rewrite our games! Danger cats and stunt squirrels completely broke and became unplayable. Plus QS lost his precious preserve scene functionality. This new versionwent much smoother than some of the others. Thankfully I am not getting any major Timer usses.

I'm not getting crashes now... did with 0.8.6 and 0.8.7... just GS crashing though, not the system.

@polygame thanks.... the hard ones are always the worst!

lol. Yeah. I'm actually surprised how stable my machine has been. I have two macs, a 15" PowerBook G4, which I love to death but can't use for GameSalad, and a Mac Mini Core Solo. it's been awesome for GS. Great little machine. Now, hopefully I can make enough cash from my games to add to my Mac and iPod collection! lol.
