I do the 'other job' thing, so only do it when I can find the time...

I only work graveyard weekends (until my games start making money) so, yeah... I work at least 12 hours a day on my projects. Used to be movies... now it's games.

I really shouldn't as I have real work to do, but Dragon fire has been close to completion for weeks now, but how wrong i was...

I usually work 12 hour days at regular job then when I'm off I hit GS at about 6 hours a day for 2 days and I'm like that every other week. I have a family so I can't put all my off time to GS.

Right now, I'm working more on the book. But combined, I spend about 12-16 hours a day on game development and publishing.

Yeah, let's add a new pole... how many hours a day do you spend THINKING about making games? Put it this way... I haven't slept in weeks! Maybe now that Max Vector is finished I can get IF/AND statements out of my head! Only... I've started thinking about my next project.... GAAAAAH!

    Good idea Polygame.

I find it is dangerous for me to go into GS without designing or thinking through methodology stuff first. Very non productive!

Now, I tend to write stuff down and the hit GS for a few hours at a time.

Yes, now thinking about it is another matter.

I've been rolling around my next game idea for weeks, but it's so outlandish I'm reluctant to dive into it.

I don't spend that much time. Only when I'm making a game do I spend a good chunk of time, really. Hell, I didn't make a single game in April or May.

I think the better questions is how much time is spent on this forum instead of working on games....or, just instead of working. ;-)

If that were the questions then my answer would have been "Over 4 hours" instead of "Under"...

Right now I'm probably spending under 4 hours a day, sometimes more lol. I'm still young so I still have to spend time with my family. I saved up $1500 in the past 2 months so I'm going to buy an iMac very soon, and then I'll get into more serious work

I'm working full-time and I have a family so I spend about 1 hour each night on either GameSalad or checking out what's happening in the forums.

Game development for me is slow. I plan things and it could take weeks before I get around to it. Or, I read a question that catches my interest in the forums and spend a few days figuring out the solution.

I'm having a lot of fun, though. GameSalad is a great tool.

How can some of you spend 16 hours a day making games? Don't you have to eat, sleep and go to a Job?
  • gamedivisiongamedivision Member Posts: 807
yeah i start work at 7:30am in the morning finish at 5pm shower then straight onto game making until maybe 1 or 2 in the morning most days, then when the wife's moaning about me on my computer ill be learning lua on my iPad in the sitting room while watching bear grills on the tv so pretty much game making is consuming my life at the moment.

That's only like 5 and a half hours of sleep! Aren't you always tired?
