digitalzerodigitalzero Member, BASIC Posts: 639

So my external hard drive just crashed and it had all my images and such on it... Is my game in any trouble if i can't retrieve the images... I know i have seen the fact that sometimes it can't locate the image... Am i screwed? And let's say i want to get a new computer and i want to pull that file on the computer would i br able to do that... It may be a noob question but i don't want to restart this game for the3rd time... I've had horrible luck with this game

If you've already imported images into a project file, you shouldn't need them again. I'd caution you against deleting ANY images from that project file since it can have unintended consequences (i.e. other images being deleted).

The real question is why you don't have a backup of your files or at least a copy in the cloud?

You can at least copy the images from your project file (control-click and choose Show Contents) into a safe location so you have them.

Agreed, if I have anything remotely important I either throw the GS file onto MediaFire (the free account gives you a staggering 50GB) or simply email it to my hotmail account, so even in the worst case scenario (house burns down, computer and external drives are stolen) getting your project back up and working is a 15 second operation.

Sorry to hear about your drive woes, you should be ok in that the images are stored inside the GameSalad file (rather than referencing them like most other software does).

And because of that, unless you've dug in GS project files before, make sure to make a backup of the project file first! Just a tip. ;)

My files are backed up... The actual file is in my hotmail... I was just making sure i don't have to have them at a specific location... My computer crashed twice and these files were located on my external hard drive which is my last place that I'm storing my file... All the images arent specifically saved in these locations they're just all on the external hard drive

The game project file itself contains everything you would need (images, sounds etc.). If you still have that file in your email or anywhere else, you should be good to go. I typically save my stuff online and on an external hard drive just to be safe.

Right. On a Mac, everything is contained within the project file (the blue ".gameproj" file you double-click to open in Creator).

On a Mac you can click and hold control...then click the project and "view what's inside". It will create sound/ image and misc folders with all of the assets you have put in your project.

On a Mac GS project files are simply OS X packages http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Package_(OS_X) remove the .gameproj ending after making a copy and navigate as normal with finder.

It doesn't help now, but dropbox is your friend. You can get a dropbox account with 2GB for free and then with referrals and loading apps, etc. you can upgrade it to 10GB.

And here's another file to backup regularly.... your keystore... you lose that, you won't be able to update your files anymore on Android or Apple stores.
