Simple clock app running in background?

Hi. I know that in the past it wasnt possible for gamesalad to run in the background and therefore simple alarm-clock like apps were not possible. Has this changed? Is it possible now?
Thanks:)

No, it has not changed. While it's possible to keep track of the amount of time that has elapsed since the app was last used, it's not possible to run GameSalad apps in the background and have them notify the user.

    Dusting off this thread.

Is this still true? For a game app such as a virtual pet, I could compare timestamps between last accessed and now, but for a simple alarm clock, the user could continue sleeping because the alarm does not go off, right?
