Can I move a spawned actor to a new layer?

I have a children's virtual keyboard that slides on and off the screen to save space and when you touch the keys of the keyboard i.e. 'A' it will spawn that letter as a moveable actor allowing the children to move it around and form words etc.
At present the moveable letters spawn infront of the keyboard, but after a while when the children are moving the letters around if they then have the keyboard onscreen some of the words may appear OVER the keyboard because this is where they spawned!
Is there anyway I can have the moveable words appear OVER the keyboard so they are easy to see, but then somehow move them to a layer BEHIND so when the keyboard is out again it can be clearly seen.
Hope it makes sense!
