Games are too hard

I don't know it's me or are games getting harder???

Even first levels take considerable effort to finish.

I just tried Let's go Rocket. Hard.

Is this what the market wants??

It is what the market thinks it wants. Maybe it is simply age?
How far would the death star have made it if you had the same attitude in your youth?

Hmm... Games were hard once. I think up until the PS2/GameCube era. Then games started to have checkpoints every 2 minutes and guided the player to every collectable in the game and so on.

But I think that many indies started to get back to the roots of gaming, make games hard, short and with tight controls. Like Super Meat Boy. So around that time at least I noticed a boom of hardcore games.

But I think that the market is very mixed right now. There being sooo many more people gaming today than 10 years ago. I believe it depends on who you want to make games for. But games like Flappy Bird, that are really hard but does not take up alot of your time, speak to the masses. On the other hand, Kim Kardashians game is super popular. Personally, I think games still have a pretty casual difficulty.

Yeah, I just make a game called You Will Die it's really hard even for me. Hard makes the game fun and makes the player want to play it, but to hard kills the game. ;)

Interesting read. Tons of other papers as well. I spend a lot of time reading studies so fun to read papers on gaming.

I like this quote from this forum...

While there are a plethora of young gamers (and their numbers are growing daily) there is also a market for the older gamer who grew up with Atari etc...
It seems to me that the youth have a short attention span and want results quickly. Whereas the older gamer may be more intellectual yet may not have the time to sit down for days on end playing Civilization or SimCity any longer.

And yes, getting back to the core of the question, games seem to be getting more difficult. But difficult can be good.

By making games shorter and more difficult the indie developer has a better chance to compete with the big gaming houses as the more in depth games take a long time to make and a team of developers to build.
    This is just my opinion...

I'm the old guy who grew up with Atari.....coleco.... Vic 20 .....apple IIe.

I have a young family who wants to play games. They can't play these tough games. And they are beyond the baby colour and number stuff.

So I made my own games for them to play. I admit they are too easy. Probably why they get little interest.

I am making a original series of games this summer that will be hard. Simple clean physic games. A little revenue is fun too!!!
