Sick of This

Anyone else sick of only seeing Ketchapp games in the "Best Bew Games" category? Apple needs to start showing off original games like some of the great ones here from GameSalad!

They must have some sort of relationship with Apple, I guess it's because they do a good job of publishing simple, catchy games (even if they are unoriginal)

I think best new games section is also ran by algorithms. So the people who download and review the game makes it show up there.

I think Dragon Jump is pretty damn good honestly. And all of Ketchapp games are very polished. Speaking of the Featured page. I was playing through another feature right now called Hue Ball which I am pretty sure is a Game Salad game. Also, it is very similar to a Ba da bump template that gshelper has on their site. Can anyone else confirm that it is a gs game?? Regardless it is one of the best games I've played in a while on the appstore.

It isn't . There aren't any load times when the ad shows. Or the loader in the corner when the ad shows either

Anything they release will go to the top. Lots of people are interested in what they publish, a lot of money sunk into them

Yea, your right. It does make you think why no gs games seem to be getting featured by apple. Maybe gamesalad should focus some energy on their relations with Apple. I would imagine a hit featured game, openly known as a gamesalad game would drive a lot of new users to gamesalad. It would also boost morale with current users. Or to your previous posts maybe gamesalad should get some type of relationship with Ketchapp like build box did. I think anything that gets more people playing gamesalad games would be a win.

.. Off topic .. But, my game has been in the "In review" state for a day now.. It usually only takes a couple hours.... May they be featuring it?

@BetweenTheWalls It normally takes a day or two for my apps to go through the review process and Apple never featured my apps, I think you just got lucky and those apps went through quickly.

    Okay

@DigitalCaesar Your apps get through apple review in one or two days? That is crazy fast man, are you sure it didn't take longer? My apps usually take 9 or 10 days to go through...

  • DigitalCaesarDigitalCaesar Member Posts: 40

    @TitanFury

My app Tack Attack took three days

My app Platform Attack took one day

I guess I am lucky, although I make apps with a fairly small size so I think that has something to do with it.

@TitanFury We're talking about the "in review" previews. Not the "Waiting for Review" prcoess

I had a game in review for 3 days then it got rejected and i sent it to appeal instant approval just in case...

also i wait 10 to 14 days before getting reviews :(

my app three points got featured by apple over 2 weeks in different sections such as
"best new games", "best indie games" and "what we play"
Leading to 350 000 Downloads on iOS and another 90000 on google play

they like simple polished games and for sure are not against games made with game salad. It is also not the job of game salad to create apple contacts - it's yours.

You also have no loading time if you whole game is within one scene.

@BigDave I'm not saying its gamesalads job to make apple contacts. I'm saying it couldn't hurt and I'm sure they do have a lot of contacts already. While we have established that it's not their job, I think gamesalad would get a lot of attention if they put a little bit of time and effort into promoting a few games that were made in gs. They presumably have deeper pockets than any of us and probably more contacts and access to contacts within the mobile gaming community. I dont think that gamesalad is obligated to do this I merely think it would be a cool and possibly beneficial way to get more exposure to the engine. I think other popular engines do a lot of contact building with press, publishers, distributors, and other important people within the industry. For instance, even non devs and industry types know about unity. Unity has a presence at all of these major conventions showing off games that were made within their engine. I talk to a lot of coders and other game devs and 95% of them have never heard of gamesalad. So while they are not required to do marketing campaigns and gain exposure to the engine and the games made with the tool, their competitors are and that's all that matters.

While what @BigDave says is true, GameSalad clearly do try to develop better relationships with the big stores, as seen by their work with Amazon and Tizen. These unfortunately are the smallest of the stores, but it's in GameSalad's interests to promote games made with their platform as well as ours. Apple are presumably less receptive, though, probably due to the low average quality of GameSalad games. There's no denying, really, that very few games made with GameSalad are of the kind of quality that deserves to be featured. This isn't a dig at the GameSalad community. The bottom line is that for every really top-notch game released via GameSalad, 1000 crappy low-effort ones are released. On the Apple and Google stores this is true as a general rule, too, but it makes GameSalad's job a lot harder when negotiating with these companies.

@Armelline If Apple is not willing to work with GameSalad because of the low quality
of most apps, I think that the answer would be to start asking and providing honest feedback on each-others apps. Although, For the most part the developers that ask for feedback on their apps have pretty decent apps already and I don't see any awful apps made with GameSalad around the forums.

The number of awful ones that get promoted on the forums isn't too high, but the number of ones that really deserve to get featured as noteworthy is pretty low. There's a handful or original and interesting and well polished "small" games, but I can't think of a single "big" game made with GameSalad in the past year of the kind of quality needed. In am, however, happy to be corrected.

Please don't misunderstand me. People learn by doing and I've made some pretty crappy games myself. A big part of what holds a lot of them back isn't that they're badly designed or programmed, but that they can't budget for amazing art or sounds. The different top-notch art makes to your chances of being features is huge.

For the "small" quick-play games that don't need art, getting featured is a matter of luck or being with the right publisher (who'll probably just steal your idea and keep all the profits for themselves anyway).

I really can't think of many recent Gamesalad apps that achieved to top ten list although according to Gamesalad's home page there are three number one apps but I don't know the names, how big the team was, or the budget.

Crappy games are important crappy games serve as lessons to what not to do or what to do differently. All I care about is if the Developer tried their best to make the game as great as it can be, crappy or not.
