Images larger than 1024x1024

I really need to import some images with a side larger than 1024 for my iPhone 6+ optimized game.

I know about the trick to cut the image in half and import both halves, and then arrange inside GS / but this would have to be an animation, so this method won't really work. I have a set of images larger than 1024x1024 that are basically frames for a full screen animation.

Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

The maximum image size is 2048 x 2048 pixels (rather than 1024 x 1024 pixels).

You would need to cut the image into quarters (rather than in half) if the image were square and larger than the maximum image size.

Why would this technique work for a static image but not for an animated image ?

Well, importing an animation in halves would mean that there would be 2 animations (the 2 halves) which would need to work in PERFECT sync. I just don't think it would remain perfectly synced on older devices.

Are you sure that I can import 2048 images in GS?? I remember getting a message when trying to import anything over 1024. (Damn, i want to try again but I am away from my laptop with GS)

@jonmulcahy thanks! 2048 is still not big enough for me to import 6+ sizes, but I will manage with an animation a bit smaller than the screen.

An animation at 2048 pixels is unlikely to play well on even an iPhone 6+ (if it even plays at all).

You could add the images directly to the project package.

    iMac / OSX

    • Add a image to your GS project
    • Close GS
    • Open your GS .gameproj file (right click, show package contents)
    • Open "images" folder
    • Replace the image with your original image. Use the same name, exactly the same!
    • Open the project again in GS
