Mobile vs Preview mode performance

I'd like to know the difference between Preview mode and real world performance on an average (say Snapdragon 400) phone?
I want to know if phones can handle my game before I go on working months on an app just to find out later after I make the apk that performance is an issue.

How can I know if phones can handle my app?

    Adhoc test your game on a device.
