problems with firing and moving

is there a way so i can make my char fire left when the fire button is pushed and left aswel? i want to make it if your just pressing left he will walk left, but if you push the fire button (which when pressed by itself fires straight up) and left at the same time, he will fire left and not move left., can anyone help me with this?
