Question about Apples Video previews

So i´m about ready with my next game, and thought i´d make a trailer of it for the AppStore...

Question...
For the iPad trailer. Does it have to be a full screen 4:3 video, or can it be a letterboxed 16:9 video? (so the aspect ratio would still be 4:3, with black bars on the top and bottom of the video).

Also, what software allows me to export video to the required 1200x900 resolution? (preferably free software).

I´m a complete noob at video editing, so thanks for helping!

@RabidParrot thanks, but if i understood correctly, that requires an iPad to be able to record. I don´t have one.

You can record on iPhone.
