Best way to replicate a "jet pack" motion?

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a good way to realistically replicate a type of jet pack motion.

Accelerate doesn't seem to gain speed quick enough and doesn't really work when you're trying to keep the actor within the screen.

I only need to move the actor on the Y axis. So I think the upward motion and gravity would work quite well.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Apply a downwards acceleration to the actor maybe. And when the jet pack is activated make it move along the y axis. The downward accelaration will work like gravity but just for that actor.

Thanks Stus, however it's not really about the downward motion, it's the fact that acceleration takes a while to gain speed. I need the motion to be sharp but with easing.

I've made a moonship test game in march. I think it can help you... enjoy!

@pedala that's the same as I have been trying and hasn't been very responsive in my experience :(
