There doesn't seem to be a Game of the Month running at the moment. Presumably they don't have time right now

@Armelline is right. I asked about it a while ago from GS staff, and they said it takes too much time right now. But they also said that it's not completely scrapped, so there is a good chance that the competition will come back someday.

I asked as well. I liked game of the month. Fun to see what people are using GS for.
But it takes time to do and there isn't cash for it at the moment
