I asked about it from GS staff a while ago, and they said it takes too much time right now. So the competition is currently on hold. I'm sure it'll come back at some point.
Several members have offered to help run it, definitely not just me! My suggestion though was a panel of judges composed of forum members and staff, rather than a poll. I personally don't much like the idea of a poll for winners.

@Armelline has presented a proposal for GOTM to @ForumNinja & Co. . Something like a moderated community poll. I do not know more details.
We are currently contemplating a community ran GOTM and are leaning towards giving it a shot. There will be more details soon

I think a panel is the way to go. Actually anonymous would be more fare too but there is no way to post anonymous.
