In a platform game i am currently making i was wondering how to enable an actor (unanimated background character) to display text in a speech bubble when an item in front of them is picked up in the game?

Thanks

Here's a demo. Click on a green "item" to pick it up.

Note that it would be easier to have the item spawn the speech bubble but I wasn't sure how important the background actor's location was in all of this so I made it a bit more complex.

The background character actually doesn't matter to much, just as long as collecting something give you information thats the main thing, will see if i can get this going in my game :) is it much simpler without the character, because simpler is my friend atm, only started using this Gamesalad today lol

Well, my demo is probably about intermediate level GameSalad so it may not all make sense at first but feel free to ask questions.

    Here's a simplified version.

    Hello,
Im trying to copy what you done on the last file, but I cant seem to get it working, I was going to upload them as screenshots but seems i cant lol my problem is that on your version in your rules you have added change attribute and selected 'game.itemX', but on mine this option does not exist. I have set up the rest of the files as close to your as i possibly can but still this function is not available. Sorry if theres a stupidly obvious fix to this problem, I'm a complete novice on game salad so bear with me :) do you know were I'm going wrong.

thanks once again for your help, appreciate it

Oh think i figured it out, add it in the attributes section? :)

Yes, you have to create custom attributes (e.g. for game.itemX).

Also, to upload a screenshot, you have to first host it somewhere (e.g. Dropbox, MediaFire, etc.).
