Nobody likes to lose data but you also need to realize that not having a backup is a serious risk. Moving forward, consider having not just one backup but multiple versions of a project file. For example, when I'm working on something in GameSalad, I save a unique copy of the file each time I make a change. By the time I'm done with a project, I have files named FlappyMineCraft 1, FlappyMineCraft 2, FlappyMineCraft 3, ... FlappyMineCraft 148. That way if anything goes wrong, I just open the previous version that I saved, oh, eight minutes before that and I'm back in business.

I'm with tatiang. Many copies, a new one each time I change a few things. A backup every 10-15 minutes at least.

Most likely what you did was a "save as" instead of a direct "save".
This happened to me too. From then on, if I wanted to save as a different name or version, I would "save" first. Close GS and then duplicate the GS project file with a different name.

You should file a bug with this problem.

  • have you ever uploading your game to the game salad publishing portal? If so you can get it back

@grishlock and @izam You don't need to close GS. Just close the project and duplicate the file on the desktop, or whatever folder you keep them in, and rename the copy.

@PhilipCC oh yes I must remember that. I keep closing GS whenever I want to duplicate the GS project.
Oh another thing about duplicating the project file is this: Occasionally some images with the GS project will get corrupted. I have no idea why. This affected me badly few months back because the game just won't be able to to generated by the server. Good thing that now the publishing server can detect and lets you know which of these images are corrupted.

I certainly didn't do that, I am sure because when you close a project it doesn't suggest a save as option, that's why I am trying to talk about this topic here. I don't expect to recover my files, I am trying to say that GS may have a really huge bug that may cause many people serious problems(like mine). And also was wondering if anyone else had the same problem.

@Kjaka ok that means this bug is more serious than I thought.
Going forward, best thing to do is this:
The moment you start a fresh new project, save it first before you add any graphics or codes.
