Pause behavior.

You know when you preview your game on game salad whilst editing with that play sign?

And then you can either stop or pause.

Why can't Gendai make a behavior like that pause?

    With ios4, Pause is dead.

    Long live Pause.

Because pausing like this, just freezes the game.. While thats fantastic, you need a decent processor and memory to do this (both of which the idevices lack). Thats why your computer can handle it...

    And well there lazy...

I've managed to integrate pause nearly flawlessly.. It does take quite a bit of work and planning but I think it's definitely worth it :)

I think it's more to do with the fact that creating a pause behaviour would pause everything in the game, including itself, therefore making it un-pausable, where as in the preview i guess it is paused but the mac rather than a behaviour so can be un-paused easily.

I think i remember a head chef saying something along those lines (correct me if I'm wrong).

    Sounds about right to me!

I think Gendai should put the pause feature in just to stop another Pause thread from showing up every 2 weeks.

Not sure when all of you pause haters got on the GS boat, but the reason for the frustration is that there USED TO BE a really easy and effective pause system. This was not like asking for some new feature. This was asking for an old feature back. It is nice that OS 4 solves the problem, though not for iTouches that do not have mutlitasking. So it is a bit of problem still considering that a lot of the gamers are youngsters that don't want a monthly phone plan just to play apps.

It would be nice if there was an easy pause solution that worked for the iTouch and iPad. But maybe multitasking is coming to all iDevices soon - it would be nice!

    You're soooo right!

I would still love a pause feature - as scitunes says, we *used* to have it.

The main reason (and the best reason) is that I don't want to piss off people that play my games more than I have to!

For example, I used my iphone on the train journey to work. If I had to switch platforms, I could pause my game, then resume when on the other train.

It's just the nature of a mobile device - sometimes you need to pause!

The inability to pause just causes hassle to the people you're trying to entertain!

Fortunately, this is addressed in ios4, which is why I don't make a fuss about it anymore. My games are aimed at ios4, it's a FREE upgrade, and so I assume my target audience has it.

Scitunes makes a good point about younger users, and this should certainly be taken into consideration, and the good fight for Pause must continue.

    QS :D

    The sheep has spoken.

Yes ios4 is a nice help now but the other function of a pause it to make a choice and not just freeze the game. In my Space Tech defender game (currently in review) I have pause and it gives you the choice to quit, replay or continue, so I think yes the fight must go on to give us a reasonable gamer choice.
