New Charity Looking For Some Help

source4lfesource4lfe Member Posts: 7

HI Everyone,

My name is Muj Hussain and I am the founder of a UK Charity called Source4life. We are in the processes of working together establishing sources of safe, clean water in developing countries. We are currently working with Tanzania and are looking forwarding to set up our first facility there.

My reason for this message is that I would like to work with a Game Salad/Developer who can help me to create a game I have been thinking about for our charity. I am so busy with getting things going that I just don't have the time to learn how to use the GameSalad platform. I would very much appreciate any help you can give me and I would me happy to share credits or give you something of the sale of the game or something.

Please let me know your thoughts,

Muj Hussain

Can you describe the genre of game? For example, physics puzzler, word game, flappy bird clone, point-and-click adventure, etc.?

This is something I would like your professional advice on, as to what would be the best ideas for my charitis aims. I have my own general ideas but only your guys can tell me if they will work.

Maybe we can create this game as a Game Salad community with everyone throwing their ideas in. My main aim for this game is not the money but the exposure for our charity. This is something very different and to the best of my knowledge no other charities has every done this which is why we have a chance to do create something special. I hope is that as gameplay increases as will donations. maybe we could have somekind of donations feature.

I was thinking about some kind of level based game. where the game starts in a far away land (representing Tanzania indirectly). The whole purpose of the game is to create a situation where the lead character is going around collecting a range of tools and parts to build the machine. Thats the sub forus. Then its about creating a situation where as the machine makes the water, it is distributed around the land to the local communites, farmers etc. The gamer can see a situation developing infront of them where they start with a land which is barren of crops, locals are having to walk hours on end to secure water, children are not in education and by the end of the game, the land has a secure water source4life (wink wink nudge nudge), the farmers have the water to grow crops, feed live stock, water for locak communities.

Maybe we could have an option on the land/level overview screen showing the lands gdp (exports), % of community education, time taken to fetch water all increase as the water is supplied to the land.

    Thank you guys,

    Muj

It's a great idea. A FarmVille kind of game would be a huge undertaking. Maybe the same concepts in a simple game. Digging wells, leaky pipe, catching water, diverting water to where it's needed type of game?

Graphics, sounds codes, publishing............its many many many hours of work.

You would need someone willing to donate a considerable amount of their time. It's unlikely you'll find a group of people to do so as even requests here for profit-driven teams don't usually result in half a dozen people readily working together. People are at different skill levels, in different time zones, etc., which makes it difficult.

One thing to consider is starting simpler. So something like a match-3 game (think Bejeweled or Candy Crush) that is water-themed. There are very good templates that can be bought for under $50 and then you just need someone to modify the graphics and a bit of the gameplay for you. That's more likely...

    HI Guys,

Thank you kindly for your words of wisdom. its very much appreciated. It would be amazing to get a farmville style of game doing like gottoman suggested and I appreciate that it would take sometime, but look at it this way, if someone would be willing to donate their time for this, you can have a promitent "created by" mention on the loading page. Also, you will know in your heart that we are working towards a goal where in Tanzania people will not have to walk for 3 hours in the blazing heat just to get access to contaminated water which then they have to drink, knowing that it might make them very sick. Is that enough heart stings pulling, emotional blackmail for ya, lol. But in all seriousness, by making this game we could achieve something very unique and very special and now that I have put the idea for this kind of link between charity and gameplay on the internet, it's only a matter of time before one of the bigger, richer ones create it so we might as well get in there first. Also, I am sure that aas things begin to pick up and gain attention, we will be able to work out a way for you to feel happier about spending your time on this.

With regards to templates and a match 3 game, I like the idea and as you tatiang said, it would be alot simpler. Maybe this might be a good way to start out. Where can we find templates?? Any ideas about how we could lay it out?? with what kind of backstory?? or objectives??? Maybe somekind of cross over between candy crush and pipes style of gameplay??

    Thank you

    Muj

I think you're in the right place! If someone is able to help you out, I'm sure they will post here or contact you. Just to put things in perspective, modifying an existing template (find examples at http://GSHelper.com) might take someone 10-30 hours while building a FarmVille clone from scratch might take someone 100+ hours.

    Hi,

Thanks for that info and I really hope someone will be able to jump on this with me and help me out. This could be something amazing for us all. thanks, I understand the time commitment now. I promise an unlimited supply of starbucks while you build the game, h :)

Below i have found a list of a few games which I think could be adapted:

This is really cool that you guys are doing this :) I wish I could help but I am still new here and not exactly the best at any part of game design yet. Hope it works out for you!

Ok Lets look at it another way. If I was to pay someone to help me create this farmville style of game. How much will I be looking at??

I would say it depends on who you get to help you. Otherwise it is time and what they are doing for you and how good they can do it. I wouldn't pay 20 $ for scribble art unless that is what you want. Maybe you'll have to hire an artist/music guy and coder, or artist/coder and music guy and they all do differently and have different expectations for their work. This is how I would guesstimate :)

Depending on the complexity and feature set, probably thousands.

Have to agree with @Armelline, probably thousands and a few months of development time at least.

Ok, what if I say that I will pay someone to help me with this project. We can find a suitable template to start with and go from there. If there is anyone who would be happy to take this on, please let me know. Thanks

@gingagaming is very good. I've tagged him here so perhaps he'll review and contact you @source4lfe.
