would GS handle a game with large size ( 500 mb to 1 gb)

I m starting a project that will need many animation frames and art assets .. my initial final size estimates will be anything between 500 mb to 1 gb ..
anyone had experience with large file size if the Gamesalad engine will show slowing down or crashes ? I have worked with files at size 150-200 mb with no issues. I m just curious if anyone encountered issues with really big projects?

Hi @mshuraih I think the max. file size for publishing to the app store is 2gb so 500mb to 1 GB is no problem.

As GSC handles each scene at a time, providing any one scene isn't overloaded again, no problem.

Initial downloading of the app would of course take longer.

Just remember games at that limit can't be download via a cell connection only wifi.

If a application is 500mb I wouldn't download it. Some people don't have enough space on their phone. Maybe it's technically possible, but you also have to think about how much people want to download a game of 500mb ;).

Cell phone providers don't allow it. It has nothing to do with the app stores.

    No problem with iPad though.

Yes, people would need to download it over Wi-Fi. But that's the case for 150 MB as well, so the difference between 150 MB and 800 MB is negligent, as long as people have the space on their device. Ultimately, it will all come to what the payoff is. If it is a full-featured game with amazing graphics, most people won't blink an eye when it comes to size. I have many games 2-3 GB in size, and the size wasn't even a consideration -- just how great the game is (or isn't).

thats my point .. using high quality and high definition graphics .. as long as the engine can handle its something we can explore and consider.

Explore? People have built large games like this already. Size of the graphics only matter as to if a device can handle it not creator. Every mobile device has a limited amount of available ram. This is why you need to build things by scenes as ram is flushed during a scene change.

Max size is 4gb now. https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=02122015a

Also, if a game warrants it then the disk size doesn't matter.

A game that's 100mb could perform worse then a game that's 2gb+ depending on the structure and memory usage per scene.
