About to get game salad - how should I start?

As I said, I'm about to get snow leopard (finally) and I know I should start to learn basic things like movement and attributes but what type of game should I start working on that isn't a template?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would get a good idea in your head, and then work towards that, starting with the bascis, and getting a good feel for your way around GS.

You can start with colours rather than images, and see how things work.

My #1 bit of advice would be to stick around here often, because there is always lots of helpful people floating about :)

Got it.Simple graphics and simple game idea.
And don't worry about me staying around the forums - I always do.

    Argh!
As soon as I get 1 step closer to getting snow leopard, the goal is sent to the other side of the field! First, I CAN'T get it because I'm using tiger right now and I'd need the box set to upgrade to snow leopard for all the applications to work.
Then I CAN get snow leopard because the applications that won't work are useless to me anyway....(Then I find out that apparently the upgrade keeps all apps intact)
Then I CAN'T get it because you need leopard in the first place for the upgrade to work.
Then I CAN get it because apple admits that the upgrade works even if you have tiger.

Does ANYONE know if you can upgrade to snow leopard from tiger.
    (And if it works)

yeah it works. But what system do you have that is still running tiger? There can't be too many intel macs still on tiger. You should be fine as long as it's not a powerpc mac.

Your apps will still be there but you will probably need to install rosetta (free additional download). I would recommend though just doing a clean install from the snow leopard disk and reinstalling your apps.

All of my (new) macs are intel OS X 10.4 Tiger so no worries there.
I'm not going to do a clean upgrade because I need my files.
What is rosetta? I've heard of it before but I have no idea what it is or does.

    Thanks for the advice.

*chuckle* While it's a definite help to be able to search the forums and wiki here, staying around the forums for me has a negative side effect too. I'm so compelled to check back every once in a while, it takes my time and attention off building my apps! ~.^

I think I am taking longer than hoped for my last wild idea... and it has been sorta way-laid by another idea but I'm working on them both now! ^_^
