    You have to be pro.

    Details here:

Is there any chance of iAd being a feature for Express members? I signed up with iAd thinking I could use the service, set it up during the publishing process and then later found out the ads need to be incorporated within Xcode itself. Considering iAd is included in part of paying for a developer license per year, I would assume we have access to this feature. I'm already paying $99 to Apple and $99 to GameSalad. Between these both costs, I think allowing Express members to use iAd is only fair.

    Thoughts?

    Agree with you 100%.

If there is a sure fire way for apple to get pissed at products like GameSalad it is because they are withholding features. I'm sure when Steve Jobs talked about why interpreted code and app builders (ie flash cs5) would not be allowed in 4.0 is because it does not give developers full access to the latest available technologies. That is exactly what Gendai are doing and I'm sure from a certain perspective they could see it as GS re-charging $2000 for apples features.

I think just one GS paid license should exist. Let people build and test apps on devices for free, but a publishing license should be fully featured and GS splash screen free and cost say $300. I'm sure Gendai would make more money that way.

I couldn't agree more. iAd is Apple's technology, so I honestly don't understand why we need to pay GameSalad to use a feature they didn't create. I understand we're paying an annual price to use GameSalad's software, which I am very grateful for, but I firmly believe that we should have access to iAd. Like you're saying, even if they require a GameSalad splash screen in the beginning when iAd is implemented, that's perfectly fine with me.

Gamasalad should definitly do something about this. I had a game that was #51 in top free entartainment section but i couldn't make any advertisement revenue from it because it didnt have iad feature. N i couldnt just pay 2000 dollars just to have iad, this is kinda outrageous.

Iad is for everydeveloper to use. It shouldnt be just for those that pay 2000 dollars

    Babble mode ON:

I think the folks at GS are some really bright people., And they have made a tool that I can use and have done so now by way of making a real game 4 times with more in the works.

I think there are two problems.

First New features, I am sure that is a long list some are probably very singular in need and others could help all of us. But that is a code issue that I am sure GS is working on, how hard I dont know but they are probably working on it.

SECOND and the most important, is the business model of GS, it seems to me that they need more help here then the code area. Pricing, revenue, etc all come under the heading of money, and one would think that GS needs money to continue. I dont know how many GS users there are that have paid the 100 bucks but I dont even think a PRO version makes any sense at all. If it was a PRO version ti should have a bunch of stuff that the base version does not have, far as I can tell Iad, no GS splash screen and and some form of direct connection to the web. That is not enough to make me rush for my credit card to buy, Iad, splash screen removal and web access in app is kind of base stuff.

From what I know building a biz is about getting customers, keeping them and growing, I am not sure tat is really going on with GS, and they are aside from a few times, really not even on this forum, dialog with customers is the other way to grow, customers pay the bills, let them help.

    Babble off:

Blimey - I follow you on twitter and youtube. Never thought I'd see you here!

Look forward to what you might come up with. But you never struck me as someone who would care about iAds. I was wrong, obviously!

Oh, and welcome to the forums and/or GameSalad!

@iWin - there are plenty (and I mean PLENTY) of other iAd threads out there, mate. If you'd read them you'd see that:

    Some people wanted iAds in.
iAds got put in as a pro feature.
    Some people got mad.
The same people calmed down when they saw the reality of the situation (i.e. they *won't* make you money)

    Cheers,

    QS :D

They already raised over 1 million in funding http://www.gamezebo.com/news/2010/07/15/gendai-games-raises-1-million-investment-towards-gamesalad

I think iAds should be free and agree with the above posts, iAds is apples and GS to charge for it seems unfair.

You have a much better chance at making a decent income with paid apps compared with free apps with iAds.

I think you're better off working on a robust game and making it paid than focusing on iAds.

It's not that I don't agree with people that it should be a feature offered for much less, but iAd revenue isn't all it's cracked up to be.

    GS is not blocking anything.

They are a tool, everyone has a right to use iAds

    GS $99 no iAds
    Unity $500 - iAds
    Torque $750 - iads
    Corona - Never used it
Script it yourself FREE - iAds

I think it's all to easy to lump GS into the same category as the other one's mentioned.
I love GS but, i certainly don't feel any loyalty as i love unity as well. So, I dont feel i am some sort of fanboy coming to their defense. I just think they have a very unique tool and they have to make some money.

The beta argument is pure BS though

Torque is 20x as broken as GS is. ACtually i take that back, itorque (or whatever they call it this week) is 20x as broken as GS. The forums are full of people that can't even publish and half the demo files dont even open.

there's my 2 cents on this already played out arguement.

    If it's any consolation...

Combined, Danger Cats! LITE and Stunt Squirrels! LITE currently net me about 4 cents a day with iAds.

The reason that number is so high is because I am getting a few hundred downloads a day from those two apps.

Now I realize that it isn't a true test of the almighty power of iAds, since they are both LITE versions of my games.

A better example would be JamesZeppelin's Doodle Monster game which has had over 1 million downloads.

Now, if he had been able to implement iAds when he launched his game, he would have made 300$.

If you want to see how much your apps would have made if they had iAds, just use this formula:

(total sales x fill rate) x 1/6 of a penny

The fill rate is currently at about 5%.

So for James' app the math looks like this:

    (1000000 x 0.05) x 0.006 = $300.00

But James released his game before iAds came out. So he is currently making about 5$ a day. And that is because he has over a MILLION downloads.

That's thousands of downloads a day. If you aren't coming close to those types of numbers, your earnings will be a tiny fraction of a few dollars a day.

Now, hopefully iAds will take off and the fill rates will improve. But until then, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

It is MUCH easier to make money from making good, paid apps that people want to play.

EDIT: Sorry, James was typing as I was...

    Hey joe :)

    Just a sidenote
I could probably get a little more but the add doesnt show during gameplay.

Ironically Doodle monster was getting thousands per day until......
I released the iads update lol
It has dropped off substantially to around 500 per day. Fell out of the adventure top 100 and as of today just entered back in at 82.
However for some reason it is still making 4-6 bucks a day.
the fill rate is still just crap though. About 7%
At this point iAds has been live 15 days and i have made $42

I think the popularity is dropping due to the spike in free app competition.
Which strengthens the argument that iAds isnt the be-all-end-all

    EDIT
i forgot that i do get around 300 updates per day so really the 500 is more like 800 or so.

    Also
    @Joe

one thing to consider is that even though my game isnt that great, there are still enough people that play it on a regular basis. As where if someone likes Danger Cats lite they probably just upgrade to the full and never play the lite again.

Alot of my impression revenue may just be from the same 500 people

    +1- What FMG said :)

Very true, I have 3 free apps with iAds in them, and making about $1-2 dollars a day, sometimes cents on the dollar.

Go make a better, robust, paid app, and you'll earn much more.
