While I don't see them listening to the little people (those of us paying less than 2k a year, that is) I do think that allowing it for a period of a couple of months on free could be beneficial. I know if I made even $100 per month on it that I'd go pro member as soon as I could scrape the money together.

I see it as a boost for shovelware.
  • IntelligentDesignerIntelligentDesigner Member Posts: 517
Why Poly? Shovelware is crappy apps, and crappy apps are not going to bring in any iAd revenue.

I see it as an opportunity to make a little profit from free apps that whet the appetite of your potential customer by allowing them the free opportunity to see what you've made. That way there are no nasty surprises (ala *paid for* crappy shovelware)

Don't you think it is possible to give ad supported samples to create a better market for your app? Apple does.

Of course, you have to put the iAd into an app that is worthwhile and has some value... One that makes you want to spring for the $2.99 for the ad free version.... More levels, more features, longer gameplay... You get the idea? So will your customer...

Oh, I agree with you. I just think too many people will make crappy apps in the vain hope that the'y make money from iAds... which they won't. And we don't need an increase in crappy apps. So, I'm kinda glad it's pro.
  • FranzKellerFranzKeller Member Posts: 517
At least Dig Dug / Mr. Driller is not shovelware. ;-)

Now it IS true, that in order to get these precious ads, Apple must choose you* as well?
So you must have an app deemed worthy of this, and they might refuse?

    *Pikachu!

What's worse is VAPORWARE...! I remember waiting for games that NEVER came out
    with dubious "screenshots".
  • MrDoodleMrDoodle Member Posts: 12
off course, but i don't think they gonna add. Otherwise it would already be included.
  • firemaplegamesfiremaplegames Member Posts: 3,211
Like IntelligentDesigner says, I put iAds in my LITE versions of Danger Cats! and Stunt Squirrels!.

If they like the games, people can buy the full, iAd-free version.

They each receive a few hundred downloads a day.

Combined, they are bringing in about 3 to 4 cents each day from iAds.

Firemaples how do you make such good games? I mean a lot of us post games but nobody cares.
  • firemaplegamesfiremaplegames Member Posts: 3,211
IDeveloperz: Thanks! But which games are you referring to? I've only made two so far...

Well danger cats is really cool.

And Stunt squirrels was on N&N wasn't it?
  • iWiniWin Member Posts: 334
My complaint is that iAd is not a feature GS made. It's a feature Apple created for all developers to use so i don't think it should be held against Express Members.
  • iDeveloperziDeveloperz Member Posts: 1,169
Well then go make your game on Xcode.

Your not exactly held against using it. Game salad can do what they like, they are a company offering an alternative than Xcode, off course it has limits but it's Gendai's right to set those limits along with their prices. And if you don't like it, learn objective -C.

    Fired up today iDev? :)

@iDeveloperz so are you for or against making iads available for express users??
  • BarkBarkCoBarkBarkCo Member Posts: 1,400
Sounds like he is just against iWin's reasoning, which I'd have to agree with iDav. There is a whole lot of stuff that can be done in xCode that we as GS users aren't "entitled" to...
  • iDeveloperziDeveloperz Member Posts: 1,169
No, it's just that every time a new pro feature comes out there will always be posts about people asking for the feature.

And i'm not a pro member so yeah I 'would' like more features, but to get those features I would have to be a pro member. What is the point in having an expensive membership if it has 2 or 3 un-requried features? If it had 7-8 more features then it seems more worthwhile. Sooner or later twitter will be out for 'Pro' members which gives me and most other people a reason to upgrade. But i can guarantee that somebody will post, "Express members need twitter!".

Im not pissed off or anything but I just think there is no need for 6-7 topics to be about express members moaning. :)

@iWin: Sorry if I seemed a bit harsh earlier on.
  • giacomopoppigiacomopoppi Member, PRO Posts: 914
i think that pros should get to choose the features they want limited only to themselves.
  • reddotincreddotinc Member Posts: 653
I think Gendai have got it spot on.. Us Pro uses need MORE exclusive features if anything! *hint hint* ;)

    // Red Dot Inc
  • giacomopoppigiacomopoppi Member, PRO Posts: 914
yes, more features, but features that pros actually need! i seriously doubt that pros need iads! if anything you need leaderboards! analytics! settings for the devices ect...
  • dknelldknell Member Posts: 48
I think Gendai should seriously consider making the pro features available as À la carte options or add-ons to the express membership. There are a lot of people that will not pay $2000 per year for one or two additional features (especially iAds that only rakes in pennies per day). Not everyone is going to use all of the pro features to make it worth the high cost.

I would definitely pay an additional $100 - $200 per year for URL forwarding and custom loading screen. Then as new features come out they can be available as add-ons. This would be a way for Gendai to make more money per user and we would have access to only the features we are interested in. That might also help Gendai determine which features are more valuable to users and where to focus their development efforts.
  • giacomopoppigiacomopoppi Member, PRO Posts: 914
    +1 i like that idea :)
  • iWiniWin Member Posts: 334
@iDevelopers, i Understand your point and i understand Gamesalad putting new features that they create into their Pro Memberships but im just saying iAd is not something they created so i dont think we should be held against it because Apple Created it for all developers. This is just my opinion.

-I know that iad isnt going to make me a lot of money and i know its not that important to have but i would like to at least have a chance to use it.

-Also i have never before complained about Express Members not having a feature, its just been this one only because of the fact i was excited to use iad until i found out its only for Pro Members.

    -Thanks
