OS X 10.12 Beta Fixes LAG I believe!

salino2835salino2835 Member, PRO Posts: 76

I have the latest version of Gamesalad and was plagued with the very slow creator with 10.11.5 I just updated to the beta 1 of 10.12 and so far Lag has gone away.

Anyone else notice lag is gone?

Great news! But remember it's only a beta -- things might still change.

@CodeWizard said that 10.11.5 basically unearthed some trouble code that needed fixing. Even if 10.12 would solve it for the time being, if there is trouble code, the issue could resurface later on, so better get it fixed on the GS side.

I agree, I just updated one of my Macs to see if the problem was fixed, I'm not gonna publish a game on 10.12 just yet> @pHghost said:

Plus it's a developer preview, so it'll probably break something else ;)

But if you have a test machine , or take a backup so you can roll back, and feel safe, give it a go

I never updated to either the latest GS build or OSX so I'm not sure you needed to have me in your list @Socks

Unless it was to inform me that the UI stuff could now become the top priority item if the slowdown issue is now looking to be fixed :)

That was my thought too, if 10.12 fixes the GS slowdown issue (as well as fixing other non-GS issues that 10.11.5 introduced) then GS coding efforts can be directed elsewhere.

This is not a solution. As mentioned often, there are two slowdown issues.

    1. Slow opening Large actors on any OX due to the way the "Otherwise" bolding was implemented. This one @CodeWizard may have fixed already but has not been published or tested yet. We will have to see. But definitely has to be looked at.

    2. Coding issues causing creator to slow down on 10.11.5. In light of 10.12 being a solution for this, is great, but @CodeWizard mentioned that it brought a number of bugs to light. Bugs which, if not sorted out now, may complicate or bite us in the butt later.

Given the limited staff and workload, bugs that are worked on should be fixed completely before moving on. We already have enough neglected bugs and half implementations hanging around in the system which will probably never get looked at again due to the push for new features. To cherry-pick two: alpha blending and rewarded video.

@allc1865 if you are an Apple developer you can sign in on the Apple developer portal and redeem a copy of the Beta version of macOS.

Weirdly I've yet to experience the 'Otherwise' slowdown issue, but regardless, I agree with your general point, best not to leave bugs in the software even if 10.12 is forgiving of them.
