    if you have an iPhone... get CHOPPER 2!!! it's awesome. One of the few games that is universally native resolution on all devices... Not only that, but it has the ability to use your iphone as a remote controller for the game on the iPad! It's pretty slick.
    Other awesome games: Warpgate, Carcassonne(great board game that will have native iPad support soon) Dungeon Hunter and Gangstar are both popular and went to .99 cents yesterday(haven't tried them though.)

    As far as useful apps. iDraft(free i think) ArtStudio, Pages, Dropbox(free), PatternMusic, skype(iPhone vers works great, turning your iPad into an oversized phone! lol)
