    If you crank up the acceleration and drag numbers then you can get good reactions while keeping the inertia 'swing' to a minimum.

    Can't remember the Acceleration but I think the drag was about 500.

    oh! for Accelerate to Touch X and Y.

    Nah, not quite... all great ideas but trying to implement them is tough! I kind of have it running quite nicely now with the basic touch 1 X/Y but the car moves at the speed of your finger... it's unrealistic but hey, it's a retro racer and it works :)
